What's your coyote gun? (And what terrain)

Ruger M77 MK II Varmint/Target Grey in 22-250. Laminated stock and grey HB. Topped with a Nikon Monarch 4-16 X 40mm with mildot reticle. Heavy for a walking/calling gun but very accurate.

I call a variety spots from open rolling country and lakes where shots can be up to 500 yds, (I actually connected at 450 and 402 yds on different coyotes this season) :) to marsh and bush edges where they can show up right on top of you. Prefer the 22-250 for the odd long shot that can happen

My recipe:
An old Ruger 77V in 6mm Rem, the prairies, a duramax and some real cold weather. :sniper::sniper:

I use a Remington 700 SPS DM in 7mm Rem Mag with a Bushnell Elite 3200 3-9x40mm on it for everything from coyotes to moose. I love that gun.

My coyote hunting is a mix of farmer's fields in rolling country to clear cuts in the mountains.

I wanted a cheap run and gun yote rifle, and after looking at a few of the cheaper rifles settled on the Weatherby Vangaurd in .243 win. It was a toss up between that and a stevens 200, vangaurd had a smoother bolt, shorter bolt throw, and without a detachable mag I can seat my bullets out farther. The only reason I went with 243 is most cheapy's won't come in a 6mm remmy, and I wanted something for my kids to grow into. The terrain here is farmland and pasture, and from real hilly, rolly to flat as a pancake, depending where you want to go. I'd say my average shot is between 200 -300 yrds some longer and some much closer if the wind is right.

savage 349b in 222rem,topped with 5-15x40AO bushnell legend.mostly pasture land with some semi open forest thrown in.had been using rem 7600 in 30-06 but was making a heck of a mess of the pelts.

For close range i use either my SP10 & 00buckshot or the 1100 rem with #2 Hevi-shot.
I custom painted the 1100.

Med range I'll use this 597magnum in 22wmr. Has a Leup 4-12x40.

Terrain varies between thick cedar swamps, Hardwoods, and wide open farmland with small bushlots usually in the middle of the consession blocks.

Broke down the choices, if someone posted 2 or more I just took their first choice. If only one person posted a cartridge choice it was left out of the results, just from my own laziness. :D
Sealhunter had one of the nicest rigs but no clue what it was. The kilkenny looked mighty tasty too.

.223 x10
22-250 x 6
.222 x4
.243 x4
25-06 x 3
7mm x2

And the odd shotgun for close range shooting.
Was a bit surprised by the number of 22-250s in the lineup, it's between that and the .223 for whenever I get the funds together.

Just a guess, is it a Sako Vixen? Now out on a limb, in .222?

And solid choices, can't go wrong with either one.

Just bought another Marlin XL7 from the guys here at The Sportslodge. A 25-06, it's getting an old 3-9X40 Redfield tracker put on it, will make a trip to the range later today.

If all goes well, it will ride along on our ice-fishing hunt for lake trout tomorrow. :) http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php?t=571909

Ted

I am sure you will like that Marlin. You cannot go wrong with the price and how they shoot. I've had two and going to pick up a 243 in camo this year.

Benelli R1. Flatland hunting, pushing bush. Usually see more than one and they are always running.

Only use the 700 BDL 22-250 for gophers now.

I just saw this post...

why the surprise?

Surprised there are so many or so few....

I absolutely love the 22-250 for coyotes ...

In a dedicated coyote rifle I would be looking 22-250, 220 swift, 223 wssm if you reload, and 17 rem and 243 round out the lot.
