Given the choices offered, I'd go .223. We don't have significant numbers of ground squirrels around my neck of the woods; if we did, I'd probably go...223!
Otherwise, I agree with Hoyt; the .22-250 is the one to beat. I've played a lot with .22Hornets, shot exactly 3 rounds out of a .204, and had a 30-year romance with the .222...all gone now, and no real desire to get more of any of them. The .223 does almost everything I need, and cheaply. The .22-250 does absolutely everything, and for not much more.
