What's your go-to grouse hunting setup?

Bird guns are cool Fudd guns. Not much tacticool in this thread.

Yeah... but...
- they get taken to the field and used, which is more than most tacticool-stuff :p

Oh hell, you don’t know what yer missin. So tacticool the birds just stand there in awe waiting to get shot. Laugh2

Great to see all the nice classic shotguns, and the great gundogs here! I've been hunting exclusively been using my Ruger Red Label English stocked for the last fifteen years, though I've been adding more grouse guns to the collection. My ribs come loose on the Red Label, so gone and picked up a 1973 Browning Superpose Lightning 20ga F/M for the upcoming season, we will see how this new gem works out? Plus now have to find a 20ga loader to accompany this gun and my Merkle 240 9.3x74R/20ga Cape gun as well. Love big game hunting ,but upland partridge hunting I can't ever give up! Glad to see ya all's passion for the woods and fine guns :)

Does it pay to load 20 GA?. I've been pondering loading for my 20 but at $12-$13 box for Taylor mades I am not sure if loading would pay at the price of powder, primers and shot these days. .410, 28ga and 16ga for sure but 12ga and 20ga???, I dunno.

My favourite when it's nice is my 20 gauge Superposed that Mr. Dawe opened up to IC/Mod. Usually 7/8oz of #6s or 7.5s

Bought a Huglu 28 Gauge as more of a "rough weather" gun that I was growing fond of last fall. 3/4oz of 8s seemed to work.

I'd be much more successful shooting them out of trees with a single shot Cooey...but I don't want to disappoint the dogs...

Excellent pics and great looking dogs, Cory!

I've been loading 410 cal. For nearly 27 years feeding my family members many 410's, for little cost .vits hard to find the Win AA hulls, but the whole shooting community have given me there hulls for all these years. I've just started loading 28ga as I'm on my last 14 boxes of factory Remington Express, so need to get my Hornaday press dialed in. And now that I have a few 20ga's to time for a press in that gauge. I know I can load for less than half price as I have been hoarding shot and primers whenever I came upon components. Lots of my older friends who no longer load just gave me what they had left! It also makes thehunt more fulfilling when you load your own :) . Don't load 12ga on the regular, but have a set of RCBS dies that I use for special loads for couple my oldies that can't digest nitro loads, wish RCBS still made these die sets, very handy
Keep up with the great hunting pictures with and without the dogs..
Wish I was capable to post a picture, but I'm not tek savy😳

Some nice pics of guns, dogs and birds posted!

Are you guys that are using shotguns shooting sitting birds or only shooting once they fly?

I only shoot on the wing. Not trying to limit out as easily as possible. I want to see my dog do it's thing and have an interesting shot. It's supposed to be a fun activity, not gathering food.

If it sits there I ground swat it, if it flushes I wing shoot it. In my part of the world 90-95% of the time it just sits there waiting to get shot, I don’t pass up meat in the freezer.
