What's your go-to grouse hunting setup?

Forecasts are for a hot weather fall this year, I've come to sort of hate them. I expect that ruffies will be thin on the ground again, at least where I've been hunting them, but on the bright side I do have plans to scout some sor-of-nearby new ground where they won't however be so tame as to walk up to me thinking I'm just a big deer.

Is that BSA a 12 or 16 Mike?
Going out tommorow with my new to me Browning Superposed Lightning 20ga F/M, made 1973, we see how well it compares to my Red label 28ga, that in for repair this year, very sad :(
Hope the bird numbers are up this year!

12g, 2.5"

That Browning ought to be fun. I've met to take my dad's lightning for a spin (26", 20g). Just haven't got around to it.

Hopefully you guys get more birds... around here, there's quite a bit of logging going on. Seems like everything ran away... When chasing grouse, I'd usually come across wood pecker/Jay's/porcupine... Thus far, the woods are darn quiet.

In other news, I've seen more rabbits in the last week than in the last decade. I might just have to start hunting them!

Well me and my nephew and his 1 year old gden retriever went partridge hunting north of T-Bay. Well the young pup was doing his job great for his age, found one that we couldn't find on the walk back. It was a beautiful day, we shot both are limits even though lots of vegetation still hanging. The grouse were decent size all Grey's with exception of one young red faze . The Browning Superposed Lightning performed above expectation, the only complaint I've been use to the Red Label rounded receiver, foung the Browning a little sharp carry it on the bottom of the action..
Looks like we will have a decent year bird hunting😀

Huglu working like magic again, on the woodlot across from my wife's grandparents farm, could have shot more likely but my wife wanted to head home at 2:30. I don't have a dog (well one that is a bird dog anyway) so most are shot on the ground from 10-40yards. My last one today was a beautiful wing shot about 25 yards out. Love this gun, very light and great to carry in the field for the day.

Dale, I picked up a Superposed 20 a few years ago. Can’t believe how much I like it. No wonder these guns paved the way for the dominance of O/U vs S/S.

870 in 12 or 20 whichever is closest. taken them with a stick, the first thing I ever killed with my Bowtech was a ruffie, never did get that arrow back.

Generally a Ruger 10/22 and headshots, but depending on my mood it can also be a vintage BSA Airsporter 177, a beater old Savage 20 pump, or the Spanish SXS .410 that is a thing of beauty.

Finally got out on Friday, and it was a Banner Day!
Been working lots lately, so happy to slip away for a hunt and the weather cooperated!
First bird was even a nice wingshot.
Shooting a damascus barreled Greener from 1901.
