Have any of the proponents of birdshot actually shot anything other than birds with it? I have a few times including porcupines, raccoons and similar animals. I used birdshot only because I was hunting and it was all that I had with me at the time. From 3 to 5 feet it works fine but then just about anything would. Increase the distance and it becomes very doubtful.
Birdshot would never be a deliberate choice unless I was hunting birds. Having to let a threat get closer because I don't have proper ammo isn't part of the equation.
