What is your long range hunting caliber? Lets say 300 or more yards is long range. For moose size game.

Im possibly thinking about a longer range hunting caliber (either 7mmRM or a 300 of some sort)

I picked up a 270 WSM for my long range deer / sheep rifle a few years ago. It depends on what you plan on hunting I guess, but I am starting to appreciate this calibre for longer range hunting. I shot a bull elk on Thanksgiving last week with it so it is capable for the bigger stuff as well.

Like Scott I am 270 WSM. I could not be any happier with this round, great long range capabilities and all kinds of energy when it arrives.

I am loading 130 gr interbonds in it for longer shots (deer hunting).

338 win mag- long distance and heavy bullets( relatively) is what it's designed for

300 weatherby with a leupold 6.5-20 with Premiere Reticle custom matched with dots to 1000 yds to my 180 gr balistic tip at 3190 ft/s at 2500 feet and 35 degrees F. Has killed to 750 measured yds with 1 shot. -- to confess - i have used this rifle since 1975 (scope came only about 8 years ago) and shoot it all the time --- hundreds of rounds a year in all sorts of practice. it is not as accurate any more -- (still sub-moa), but it is my go to good.

Whitetails (from a "whack shack") coyotes & groundhogs (woodchuck)

Remington 700 CDL with a Leupold 6-18 AO- LRV in 25-06. Nosler 110 gr. Accubonds for deer and either 75gr. V-Max or 85gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips for Varmints. Can generally cover 3 shots with a quarter at 200 yds, so 300 isn't a stretch. Few opportunities beyond, but I'd certainly try from a good rest.

300 H + H with 180 grain Noslers--but I don't often shoot at ranges over a couple hundred yards unless conditions are close to perfect and there is no chance of getting closer.

My 30-338 shooting 180 Nosler Partitions at 3140 fps. Deadly on moose and elk right out to 500 or so, as far as I care to shoot at game. Regards, Eagleye.

Well for all the years behind me i have only shot 2 animals pats 300 y one at 310 the other the 325 ( my steps not measured) a bear and a deer both with a 270 win.

But since than i would use my 30-378 or one of my rums, or my 264? or a magnum of some sort! 300 wby 300 win??

This year its a 7 STW with 160 TSXs at 3300 fps. My longest ever shot was with a 338 and 250 Noslers at 2750 fps. I try not to shot at long range.

If I need to shoot a deer at 300 yards this year (which I generally don't shoot anything past 150 yards), it will be with my .308win with 125gr Nosler Ballistic Tips.

:D

I don't take many longshots, but when im heading into open country, I take my remington 700 classic in 6.5x55 topped with a vari-x II and stoked with 129 grain hornady SP.

I just picked up a stainless Vanguard 257 Wby. Early tests with 100TSX's at 3600+ fps show it will pull it's weight.

But honestly, they all work. Even my 358 Norma with 225 TSX's at 2950 shoots flatter than most would believe. If the animal is a ways out, you need to know how far, and how to hold. Or compensate with turrets or a special reticle.
