My time to hunt is while it is still dark in the morning, walking to a location while eyes are adjusting.
With 7 x 50 binoculars, deer are seen before the eye can detect them.
Adjusting the scope so I have and exit pupil of 6 - 7 mm suits me.
Tried a 50 mm objective once but it would not fit into the Kolpin Gun boot so it was switched back to a 40 mm.
Scopes I have tried range from 6X, 2.5 -8, 3-9, 2.5-10, 4-16, 2-12, 2.5-16 and 6-24 . . . tried is the key word!
Current combinations are: 22-250 - 6-24; 243 - 4-16; 25-06 - 2.5-16; and 280 - 2-12.
The 280 is probably the best scoped for hunting with a Leupold VX-6. The rest are suitable for my needs and weight is not a big concern.
