Cleaning processes vary between shooters - some clean after 'every use' even 20-30 rounds, I do. And when testing ammo I always start with a clean bore, then usually 10-rounds to foul the bore (between brands/types) before recording shots ( although I do keep records of all my shots, those shots aren't 'counted' in a test ). If I'm being really fussy I'll run a patch with 90% Alcohol between brands/types, too. Especially if I'm chrono-testing the ammo, too. All towards trying to reduce variables between tests.
Just to mention also that i clean the bore around 100-150 rounds (and I usually shoot less at a range-trip) even if I'm still shooting the same brand. Then the 'fouling protocol' is repeated.
BTW, I don't compete - just on my own out here. Not many in town shoot for accuracy beyond splatter-targets.
