I had no idea you were also a .350 Rem Mag guy, Steve. Not only have you done excellent reviews on Barnes bullets in the past, which I found to be very timely and useful, but you have good taste in caliber too. My all original 673 laminate in .350 RM is one of my two favourite guns. :)

Here is a picture of "Mur's Thumper". It's a .350 RM built on a 700 action. 22" SS Krieger contoured from a #3. Leeper did all the fine work. She is a tack driver too.

Oops! I should have specified, it's a .35 Whelen, pretty much the same thing anyway. Since you mentionned Barnes bullets, I'll have to post my result with the LRX and the moose I shot last week.

My Current .35 Whelen is a custom Sako AV classic. Wears a Zeiss 3-9x50 in optilocks, and shoots very well. I use it as a dedicated elk rifle. It seems I shoot elk within the first 5 minutes of legal light most times, this scope works very well for that purpose. Have taken a half dozen or so with it so far. Its barrel twist is 1:12 which I like for the 250 gr. bullets that I prefer. I used a Rem700 classic for many years and took a lot of game, and used a custom Ruger #1S some, but this one is a keeper!

A #3 contour SS Krieger? On their website they say they won't do lighter than #5 contour in SS. I emailed them and they said that the reason is that SS doesn't have the fatigue resistance of CM and they make up for that with a heavier contour.

Has laid out many of Deer over the last few years. Now days more of a Dedicated Sambar stalking rifle for the thick country.

My oops. You did specify .35 Whelen. :) Yes, very similar ballistics. Looking forward to your results with the LRX. I didn't shoot a moose last week.....

Thats what I understood too. Reason I lapped it up, though it was a struggle to get it in hand.
It is the perfect contour for that caliber IMO. It had thr contour stamped on the face as well.
Krieger is retarded about that subject. How about all of the SS #2's they made for Weatherby's ultralights up to .300 Weatherby? All horsepucky.

I know...it seems kind of odd, doesn't it? The ultralight's barrels weren't cut rifles though, were they? I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

Here's a custom 35 Whelen Imp. I built in 1980 for close range big game hunting:

Husqvarna action
21" Douglas premium barrel #1 contour
Bishop #A fancy American walnut
Custom adjustable peep sight to fit Weaver base

Very nice rifle, Moosetracker, and my bet is it's good for much more than a short range thumper. Easily a 300 yd big game walloper!
