Where are all the 35 whelens and 350 Rem mags. Pic's anyone?

Explain Fudd? all i can think of is elmer fudd..

The association is correct, the term Fudd seems to refer to anyone preferring a wood stocked, blued gun with a manual action, rather than a synthetic stainless job, that's semi-auto. Typically a Fudd would be of the opinion that it ain't like his, it shouldn't be allowed. He doesn't like black guns in particular, believing they will eventually result in the banning of all guns. This attitude can carry over onto the rifle range where the Fudd doesn't think anyone needs, nor should anyone be allowed, to fire faster than 5 rounds a minute.

I might be considered a partial Fudd, in that I like bolt actions, nice wood, and classy bluing, but I also like fiberglass stocks and stainless barrels for some applications. Additionally I have nothing against black guns, self loading actions, or pray and spray provided its not in my rifle, or with my ammo.

Here's pic of my .35 Whelen custom Winchester 70 and my 6X6 Alberta Elk from September 2011. Love any chance to show it off.
Cheers

Nice Pic Geoff,

My Current .35 Whelen is a custom Sako AV classic. Wears a Zeiss 3-9x50 in optilocks, and shoots very well. I use it as a dedicated elk rifle. It seems I shoot elk within the first 5 minutes of legal light most times, this scope works very well for that purpose. Have taken a half dozen or so with it so far. Its barrel twist is 1:12 which I like for the 250 gr. bullets that I prefer. I used a Rem700 classic for many years and took a lot of game, and used a custom Ruger #1S some, but this one is a keeper!

I have the mirror image to this rifle, also in 35 Whelen. By mirror image, I mean it is left handed. However, the only game it has accounted for are a few sniped grouse!

Can anyone give me some feedback on this........

98 Mauser sporter based on a Spandau Gewehr 1905 action, in 35 Whelen. 24" barrel, no open sights. Drilled and tapped, includes Weaver bases. Timney trigger with side safety, Boyd's Forest Camo stock. Butter knife bolt handle. LOP 13 3/4", weight about 8 1/2 pounds

I have no idea on Mausers at all.

Thanks.

Waterfowler - I had a .308 Norma Mag built on a GEW 98 - it was fantastic. Slick as butter. I sold it for $450 iirc, and to this day I don't know why.

Another mirror image in 35 Whelen - friends rifle with a Douglas barrel and a muzzle brake.

Speaking of left hand 35 Whelens, I have left hand Ruger Hawkeye action and canoe padle stock ready for rebareling into 35 Whelen in my own free time. For 6 months I am trying to buy take out barrel in EE in 35 or 338 cal and so far no luck. I am not desperate for the rifle by all means but never realised it will be that hard to buy one.

I have a "new to me" Sorensen Custom M70, chambered in .35 Whelen. :) This rifle has a Shilen barrel and has been expertly bedded in a Winchester featherweight stock with Remington open sights installed. I bought this rifle from Mr. Sorensen recently, and installed a set of Leupold quick release bases and rings and an old favorite Leupold 3-9 Vari-X II scope. The first time out with this rifle, and using the only 250 grain factory load I could find (the Remington Core-Lokt load) I delightedly fired several 3 shot groups at 100 yards well inside an inch, and symetrical. I am absolutely delighted. :)

If I remove the scope and then reinstall it in the QR mounts, I can't see any difference in POI at 100 yards. This makes for a really slick rifle that can be used with either open sights or the scope and I am really excited about it's accuracy potential with handloads. Here are a couple of pictures of the rifle when I bought it.

So send me a PM when you want to sell it 3macs1 I've been wanting another one since I sold my last one to a nice guy in the yukon. Been kicking my a$$ since...............

Southpaws have shamed me into it. M700LH chambered in 35 Whelen AI with a 22" ER Shaw barrel. Leupold QR mounts and a VXlll 3.5X10. I had a friend mount a Redfield folding peep to the rear scope base, so the last piece of the puzzle will be a NECG band front sight.

Sorry about the poor lighting. Pretty dark and dreary day today, not much natural light.
