Where are all the Colt handguns?

I have had three Colt 1911's and every one was a very nice pistol. Are there nicer 1911's out there? Probably, but they don't have "Colt" on the side and that turns some people's crank. Wouldn't mind a nice Dan Wesson Valour though ...

prproulx....Four years ago you wrote this ''Hi I'm the Colt company. I made a very FEW high quality guns. If you got one you're very lucky, because the rest are CRAP! ''

I guess you're just being punished...it's called Colt karma!:D

OK

I don't remember that. I must have been drunk. Or I thought I could abuse them because they would always be around! There was always some on the EE back then.
Oh now I remember. I was having some issues with a 9mm Commander.

Because the revolvers are a little more complex then a S+W (or their Rossi/Taurus clones). You need a more knowledgeable 'smith to work a Colt. I like them, and own a few, but I generally do most of my work myself. If you need a good Colt revolver gunsmith, you'll be looking a long time in Canada. Having said that, if you ever try a Moran or C+S tuned Python, you'll understand why they are called the "Cadillac of revolvers". - dan

I have a late 80's Python and a 3rd gen Woodsman and will never sell either one. A 1911 is on my must have list..

As a newbie gunnut, can someone tell me why there are very few, if any, Colt handguns carried by Canadian retailers?

US demand alone exceeds Colts production, and we are not in the US. They are simply very hard to get.

We have standing orders in for all Colt 1911 pistols except for the 38 Supers which we only do by special order. Colt manufactures the different models in individual production runs, they do not make all the guns, all the time. We are told that most production models do two runs a year, however, we almost never receive two shipments of any model in one calendar year, and we never have our orders 100% filled. For example, we've had an order for 10 X Delta Elite 10mm in for over a 18 months, when our order was filled, we received 1. If history is my guide, that is the only Delta we will see this year.

That said, our first 2012 Colts are rolling in now. Excited to get the new Gold Cup National Match!

It's exciting to see Armseast listing anything by Colt. Wavered on getting an XSE last year, but now am planning to buy something a bit different from them soon- if all goes as planned!

They're always a pleasure to talk to and have very reasonable prices.... sigh... but Colts ain't cheap!

I have a few Colts, my 1991A1 could have any decent non-Colt 1911 stand in for it.
Of the other three Colt revolvers, the 44 Anaconda is my favorite by far.

Edit: In revolvers the Python stands out as a truly sought out piece for some collectors as we all know.
I'm well aware of the shortage of Colt trained 'smiths as Dan has mentioned here, and I buy handguns to shoot them.
And not just sit idle in a gun safe for occassional admiring & polishing.

my two bits.......
