Like you say that one was all about playing with the cartridge; I was loading slightly over book and the velocities were amazing. I’m shocked there aren’t more rifles in the chambering for straight wall states. I took it moose hunting a bunch but never connected. Even a 2 inch group looked impressive with those half inch holes.

I’d take almost any other single shot in 500 S&W over the H&R though, a ruger no 1 with an 18 or 20 inch barrel would be amazing

I have the same rifle and mine is a rack-driver as well. Although I did have to put a couple of small washers between the hanger bar and forend to free float the barrel. It’s a cool rifle and has served me well.
 
A couple of my single-shots--different from most in being bolt-actions. Both are Wichita Classic rifles with the full octagon form (action and barrel) and with considerable custom work. Top is a .22PPC; bottom is a .243 Win. The PPC produces quarter-inch 100-yard 5-shot groups. The .243 doesn't do quite as well--more like .35"-.40".

Lovely rifles indeed sir. I have a Wichita 1375 in a 308 palma rifle. You don't see many Wichitas up here unfortunately.
Yours is the very first sporter variants I ever seen on CGN.

I spent most of the afternoon on Gunbroker, the selection of B78's, 1885's, and No. 1's available in excellent or NIB condition is remarkable. So are the prices! I've seen similar rifles on ####### for the same money or less is some cases.

I bought a Traditions Outfitter G3 in the spring, 44mag. I found a couple of the proper weaver rails, but have since seen a post somewhere where a guy found that Weaver 418m bases work on the Outfitter. Hope this works for you. It’s a sweet rifle.
 
I have owned a lot of the h&r rifles over the years. And I still get excited when I see one pop up for sale. The one I regret selling the most was a stainless steel 22 hornet with the matching 20 gauge barrel. The only single shot I own now in a tc encore with an mgm barrel in 45lc and it’s a track driver, shoot way better then I can.
 
Here's my Traditions Outfitter G3 in 44mag. It currently is scoped with a Leupold VX3i 1.5-5, but I can easily swap it for the red dot depending on the conditions.
