We don't care for it because most the ones serviced become junk quickly from negligence and abuse by troops. I can agree I generally don't like it much, especially the cheap rail screws, however I once (and only once) got a chance to use a brand new one. Loved it. Of course wasn't brand new after I got through with it, but like my rifle, I keep it clean and maintained. Never had a problem with it.
What I like about the C79A2 is that it has good eye relief/sight picture (no squinting necessary) and a good reticle. Besides the shabby mount, the optic is housed nicely and is actually rather durable/rugged when it comes to adverse conditions and handling.
So it's sort of a love/hate relationship. I honestly just prefer iron sights, but the Elcan is ok in my books and some day I plan to own one. I've got enough practice zeroing, adjusting, and jury rigging them that I'm already greatly proficient. And since I won't be stomping on it in a snowbank, or doing pepper-potting through dead ground, I don't think I'd be too worried about it crapping out on me so soon. Then again, I guess we'll see (if I ever acquire one).
