Where do you guys find 303 suplus ammo

Well over here S&B, FNM and Privi are taking up where the remains of HXP and RG has finally dissapeared into various hidey holes. Its ok ammo and shoots like milsurp, best of all I have more than I can ever use!

Have you guys heard of a good trick that some people are doing for a reduced power load for .303?

Buy a case of 7.62x39 ammo. Pull the bullets, then dump the same powder charge from the Russian/Czech case into a primed .303 case and seat the bullet.

Works pretty good I hear. I was told the bullets are crimped in pretty tight though in the Russian cases.

The highlight of my search for the cheapest workable .303 plinker reloads was a cast 185 gr bullets from a LEE mold, without gaz check, using 10 gr of HS6 powder and kapox (stuffing) to keep the powder close to the primer.
That gave about the same velocity as a .22 (1100FPS) and satisfactory precision at ranges up to 100 M...I recall being happy with 5'' group@ 100M with the sight adjusted at 400 or 600...

Jacques I would be interested in hearing about your reduced loads. What size of bullet do you use? Any favourite loads that you care to share?:D

ive done just that, pull the bullets from cheep 7.62x39 dump the powder into the 303 case, seat bullet, done.
if i recall, it gives around 2-2100 FPS over the crony. nice light load. zero recoil
the hard part is pulling the bullets. most are laquered in. i finally figured this out to, after almost destroying an inertia puller.
get a 7.62x39 seater die. set it up short of the factory rounds. push the bullet back into the case a bit, and break the seal then they pull easy. lotsa work, but, cheep shootin

exactally what i was just about to mention.

My neighbour asked me the same thing. I told him WWII ended in 1945.

You can't really expect any surplus in 2009.

A good solution and I have met a few others in our area that have been doing the same. :)

One would be surprised what is still laying around the world in caves etc.

Actually there are still several nations that keep the enfield rifles and ammunition in war reserves. Greece, Pakistan, India, Denmark to name a few. Mostly small or third world nations, but it's still out there. CanAm could fill us in on this far better than I can.

Greece is one good example as is South Africa. I would love to get my hands on more of that Greek surplus 7.7 ammo.

Canadian regulations make it difficult or expensive (or both) for dealers to import Ammo that isn't being currently manufactured. Apparently mercury in primers is an issue, also ammo that isn't currently manufactured has to be pressure tested bore it is allowed to be sold in Canada.
There is a great deal of 303 and other milsurp ammo left in the world. Very little gets imported to Canada because of cost and regulations.
