Westrifle has proven that they come to the table when it comes to good deals on milsurp. I can see it now, "buy 2 Mausers now and get a Mosin for(crazy low price)". But wait, there's more!:) Love those guys.

I just bought a sporterized 98k for $225. The thing that coaught my eye was the lack of the typical RC "X" and the fact that the bolt AND barrel (at least the part under the rear sight) had those little eagles stamped in it (without being re-peened by some nazi hating communista (Hee Hee). Pics are in a different post.

The thing is, the stock seems to be the really bubba'd thing. If it is an RC, then they missed some grinding or whatever. I am no expert, but I was thinking (hoping) that I got one of those little gems that might actually be worth putting some effort into finding a stock and stuff. :D I dunno, hopefully some more individuals with way more experience than me will look at my post with the rifle and give me an opinion, or two.

personally i'd be very leary of paying extra for a mauser with rare markings.
 
Just look at "Mitchell's Mausers" in the USA, poor things are faked all over. I have a special paper target with his head on it for use with my Kar98ks :D.

Atleast with the RCs you know your not getting screwed on a possible fake. Your also not paying an arm and a leg for one either. Add in the history and you have a deal no sensible collector would turn down, whats not to love ?

It costs more than $200, you have to add duty and GST. But its an option if the numbers add up or you can't find it in Canada.

Also I believe Prophet River is raising their fees. It used to $195 for the first gun. There's a post around somewhere to this effect.

They are sold out now so if you see it - buy it! This is the best book on late war K98s bar none. Sometimes copies come up for sale on the K98kforum. There is also a back order list from the web site. The authors are working on a volume about early K98 rifles as well.

After first reading this thread I went looking for K98s. I already have a mystery RC with the code scrubbed off but the funky chickens not peened. Kinda of weird. I'll post pics once I learn how to use my digital camera.

But I also took Claven's advice and considered a post war Czech K98. So here is my new (to me) tgf 1950. Its in transit to me so this pic from the dealer will have to do. Its bore is only fair but everything matches except for the stock and the bolt stop. Best of all it cost me less than an RC - from two years ago.

I see, I had the privilege of visiting William Arms in person, they are a nice bunch to deal with and they know their milsurps.

I thought you were collecting Polish firearms, you may just have to "give" that tgf to me so your collection stays on track :D.
 
I cant believe no one has snatched up that ERMA off the EE. Hes lowered the price and I have seen pics, its a nice rifle. .
In the wrong stock and winter trigger but still a nice rifle!
A month ago I offered him what hes asking now and he turned me down, so I bought another one. Good rifle for someone.
With all the WTB mauser ads I cant believe no ones grabbed it.

I actually started out as a Finnish Mosin collector. Stoggie got me started on the Poles. :D

But it seems that I'm collecting prewar rifles whether mausers or not. This is a bit of an aberration. Maybe we can worked out a trade. ;)

Actually what you have and I covet is worth more than my tgf 50. But my RC mauser, while its nice that its still has the funky chickens all over it, is pretty beat up and a real mixmaster. After all the talk and that beautiful 'sportser' K98 sobo433 picked up. Well I had to do something.

Actually when it comes to a mauser I really would like to find a Vz24 L (export to Lithuania). That and a Estonian P14. Not sure what the Latvians used prewar. I know Sirskons has a Latvian Police m91 but not sure if its prewar.

I too am surprised that Erma '37 did not go already. I would pick it up but I am saving what ever I can for my Gewehr 98 sniper clone project (its almost done too!!).

Yes, fugawi, I too am guilty of straying somewhat off course and grabbing some rifles outside my WW1 area. The Swede would be the best example but that rifle fits my shoulder better than any firearm I have used. The real crime is I have no ammo to shoot it :(.

I keep my eyes open for any Imperial German .22 trainers...I'd love to see one of those at the range.

The hunt continues...
