Where have all the Winchester Model 12's gone?

Anything old is not really popular these days in the era of plastic guns...

But that's good news for the dying breeds that prefer old world craftsmanship... I'm more of a pre and just post war rifle kind of guy, but I'm seeing some old shotguns lately that are drawing me towards them....over/under BRNO's are almost making me dust off the wallet lol.
Shotguns never really turned me on too much, new or old, not sure why...I guess because I use them rarely and well, it's kind of hard to measure if one shoots better then the other.

That's a nice looking Bob Baumgart Super X-One. He was quite the proponent of the SX-1 and well respected for his workmanship. Does your's have his intials stamped on the trigger assy?

Last time I checked with WGP their buffers cost $36 plus $15 shipping.

I have only one Remington Wingmaster, it was my Dad's. He was a fan of Remington shotguns.

Your guns are beautiful. I don't think any one used nicer wood on factory models than winchester back in the day
No stamp on that trigger but I know what you are talking about since dad sent some work down in his later years. That gun like you was my dad's.
He being a yank and a gun shop owner and active trap shooter state side met Bob somehow and did some business with him but me only 2 times. His young SX friend Boomer I can hear him say
I don't think he stamped all stage 3 triggers only stage ones he modified to stage 3 but could be wrong
I still have a small bag of original winchester parts from the shop for the x1 that I hold onto like gold. One would think the original buffers would be all dried out and split but they are fine. Maybe stored in the dark made a difference
Take care
Joe

I sent a trigger to Bob for an upgrade. Came back with such a stiff trigger pull that I can get a blister after a 100 rounds or so. No idea who to send it to to fix it ?

Wow that is a first for me. I have never heard or read of anyone having a problem with his especially trigger work
How many years ago roughly. Original stage 1 & 2 factory supplied were very heavy pull

Stu Wright does them if still going and Steve Fischer Gunsmithing 4235 SW 75th Ave

Between 15 and 20 years ago, when shipping a trigger to the US was simple.

Stu Wright passed away in 2016. His shop is closed. His wife sold everything off and closed it and Steve Fischer is a butcher and dishonest sob!! I'd never deal with him ever again!!

Thanks Spank. Just the names that came into my head from years back and superx1 trigger work
I am clearly out of touch which who can do them today and been 20 plus years since I had one done
Cheers

Only reason I ask was Bob passed in 2006, got sick in 2004 and it was said others may have helped him clean up what he had on the go
Possible I guess on your trigger since it would not be the norm for him to screw one up
Cheers

I have a like new model 25 solid frame 12 gauge 28” barrel chocked modified that’s a great pheasant killer. Without the take down mechanism it has a great balance and pints true. My go to shotgun is the Remington 31. My dads gun and a real beauty.

The old 12’s that are found in my area are great to resurrect with choke tube adapters from Colonial. In my gun shop I cut the barrel and attach the pretreaded adapter and then replace bead. The results is a very slightly modified 12 with handy screw in chokes. The results with cleaning and touch up is a great hunting shotgun for under $500.
