Where to buy Barrel for Build

Why's that? Kinda takes the fun and gratification out of it having it built by someone else.

For sure! Bought my first AR, figured out what made it run, built my second AR. I like them bob, but my second gives me a little more satisfaction since I built it with my own 2 hands...

Each to their own I suppose

There is a certain satisfaction in building your own, but on the other hand there is a certain comfort in letting someone who maybe more knowledgeable and skilled build it for you… and with that being said, keep in mind, some people just have two left thumbs, I know I have run across a few in my time…

A certain comfort in someone else building something for you? Bah. Certain comfort in building it yourself, knowing what was done. AR's are almost like lego. Basic AR build if you take the time to read up on them is pretty easy. Just a matter of having the right tools which can make the first build a little more expensive if you add that into your budget.

Yeah… I have bought and built AR’s… I was just trying to offer an explanation… Personally I have no reservations about my LMT, which someone else obviously built, I can see why someone would feel more comfortable with a rifle like it then one that was put together in their garage… Personally, I don’t have a problem with saying someone else can do better work then I can, rifle or what have you…

Very true, like I said.... Each to their own. Me and my buddies tend to be tinkerers, first thing I do with my computers is open them up and take them apart lol.... Same thing with my first AR, first thing I did was pull every thing apart , except the front sight post.

I think also people like the quality that is put into a quality gun. LMT, KAC and Daniel Defense (for example)... Build some quality guns. Especially if you do competitions or it's your job to carry one, for sure you want quality equipment.

What do you think DD 14.5" barrels are worth? I may have access to some but I'm not sure if they will end up being to expensive to sell.

Went ahead and purchased a 7.5" barrel from Fabsports last evening! Thanks for pointing out their availability, would have taken a lot longer to find one without your guys' help!

Now I'm one step closer to commencing my build.

Anything I need to know or should take special note of in building a short 7.5" barrelled AR? Any recommended parts? Can I use standard carbine mil spec buffer tube? I'm assuming I'll need a heavier buffer?

I look forward to hearing all of your POSITIVE input, and again appreciate all the help!

Cheers

May be stating the obvious but you will need a pistol length gas tube. ATRS recommended a Full Auto version BCG when I built mine as it has a little bit more mass for cycling. My BCG is from Brownells and it works fine. I'm running a carbine buffer and have had no problems at all. No FTE or FTF in close to 300 rounds so far.

Either commercial or milspec buffer tube will due. They don't affect function.

What is the process with registration once it's complete and built?

The lower receiver must be registered already as a receiver only, once completed you just phone them and update the registration with the correct barrel length etc.

Standard buffer tube will work with anything. Typically short ARs use heavier buffers but it depends on the gas port size in the barrel, my LMT runs a carbine buffer and a semi-auto carrier. Also, typically you should have the upgraded extractor spring with o-ring, many BCG’s come with it, some don’t.
