Where to buy brass?

Welcome to CGN!

It would be useful to know what brass you're looking for, as well as where you are, as the shipping costs have to be factored in. I'd add TradeEx to Hitzy's list, depending on what you're looking for. :)

I just bought 3000 rounds of .223 and 200 rounds of .308 all for $300 Shipped off the EE. PM user "MDRGC", he sells range brass(Mission BC) and the proceeds goes to youth programs for their range, solid guy too.

Tradeex and X-Reload for .303, .308, 7.62×54 R, 6.5×55 Swedish, and 7.5×55 Swiss. Both have provided excellent web and phone order service.

Higgingson Powders has brass and it seems reasonably priced, but I've not ordered brass from them. For other orders they have provided excellent web and phone order service.

Have bought 32-20 brass a few times from Ellwood Epps; was reasonably priced. Picked it up in-store so I have no experience with their web and phone order service.

If the only brass you have seen in a store is the stuff at Cabela's and Bass Pro, look elsewhere. It may be top shelf brass but it seems awfully expensive to me.

If you have someone you know in Regina, Wholesale Sports is closing, they have 30% of reloading supplies, I just bought 300 rounds of Winchester brass for my .30 Carbine brand new for 30.00 per hundred

Nothing is "cheap" anymore due to the Obama $.

A few questions from the U.S.

Has the exchange rate changed that much under Obama?

Does Canada make brass cartridge cases?

I can understand Remchester brass but Obama doesn't make European brass.

On the flip side you Canadians are hoarding #3 Enfield bolt heads and they now cost a arm and a leg in the U.S.

You should contact Justin Trudeau and see if he can import Lapua brass cheaper and if not blame him for the high prices.

Or get your friends to pick up brass on the way back from Disney World in Florida or Disney Land in Calif.

Or trade #3 bolt heads for American brass. :stirthepot2:  :stirthepot2:

bigedp51,

I doubt any of it directly relates to the Obama admin. The exchange rate has gone from pretty much at par a few years ago to about $1.38 but the causes for that are probably more complex than just the administration.

Dominion (CIL) used to make brass cases and indeed ammo, and I think IVI still does (someone may correct me on that) but any IVI is likely military stuff. We do often find used .303 British IVI brass. Also, there is theoretically a Canadian importer/rep. for Prvi Partizan which brings in the ammo (?) but apparently we have to get the brass from the US! Bloody ridiculous because it's decent stuff and not American-made, so would be outside of ITAR control.

We have a good importer for Lapua, but it's pricey stuff anyway :( Don't know if we have to get that through the US.

Bringing brass back from the US is a NO-NO, just like bullets, primers & powder. We can bring it in under Canadian law, but thanks to ITAR, YOU guys won't let it out of the US w/o the proper export permits! The blame for that I believe was our previous Liberal gov't. under Jean Chrétien. As I understand it, we were asked if we wanted to be exempted from a lot of this stuff and some haplophobe idiot convinced us to say, "No." We can bring back relaoding equipment like dies and presses (as long as they're not the big commercial machines, but none of us can afford $20k+ for those anyway unless we're in the business.) I think the relevant info is here, but it's in gub'ment-speak and therefore peversely dense and impenetrable to us plebs.

OTOH, we can legally own shotguns with v. short barrels and likewise "Mares leg" rifles w. 12" barrels without special permits, whereas I believe you folks have to pay the $200 Federal Transfer Tax. But at least, that tax allows you to own suppressors etc., which are totally prohibited here (Criminals seem to be exempted, of course.)

Sorry about the Nº3 bolt heads. We gotta retain a little leverage, you know :) YOU folks were hoarding all the components a few years ago, buying entire skids of .223, 9mm etc. for fear it would all be taken away from you. Apparently a local guy out here who has a commercial ammo manufacturing licence was getting requests from the US for ammo! Not allowed to export, of course.)

Add your City to the profile, so that when you post we can give you better info.

I've never understood why so many refuse to at least put their province for their location.
If it was up to me EE access would not be granted until that info was there. Such a pain when they post "plus shipping" but don't say where they are so you can get an idea how much it will be before bothering them. They're not hiding from anyone but us, any government agency can figure out our location in seconds if they wanted to.
