Where to buy Brenneke Slugs?

Thanks, accuracy plus is out of stock until the end of August apparently. I may check with Ellwood Epps if I end up going that direction in the near future. Was hoping to avoid shipping costs, as these slugs are expensive as hell, but it sure is hard to track them down locally.

Where are you? Meaford Home Hardware, (not Knights the one by the Fire Hall) had some last time I was there and will order for you.

Are they really that much better than Challenger's Gualandi-type slugs or is it just marketing?

Yes. More accurate (in my shotgun anway) and harder lead for more penetration.

The thing to keep in mind is that Brenneke is a bit like Nosler and Hornady. Not only do they make and market their own ammo, their projectiles are available in shells from other manufacturers such as Rottweil and Rio. Al Simmons in Hamilton usually has a good selection of shells from Rottweil and Rio using Brenneke slugs. I've used both brands and have no complaints.

Can they be fired from a smooth bore or does one need a rifled barrel?

Brenneke USA makes both sabot slugs (for rifled bores) and their traditional brenneke style for smooth bores. The shape, hardness and weight are what give them there excellent penetration. They deform and break up far less than hp foster slugs. Thats what seperates them from run of the mill rifled slugs
