Where to buy Real Black Powder

As others have already advised, local muzzleloader groups are a great resource, they usually order in larger quantities, and might sell you some at a lower price than vendors at gunshows, or gun shops.

Sounds like there are a few places that aren't too far away. For those of you that have ordered and had it shipped, what are the shipping and hazmat fees like?

The quote I got was more than the cost per pound of powder (wanted over 40 bucks for the "special handling and haz fee" and that was with "free shipping").

If you were buying a case lot it would work itself in, but I can drive the 2 1/2 hours and pick it up in person for the same cost in gas as what they wanted to ship.

So if you are only looking for a pound or two, wait until you have to go where it is to pick it up - because it ain't worth 80 or 90 bucks a pound - (wash my mouth out) I would shoot Pyrodex before paying that for black.

I pick mine up from Hillfolk at gun shows so I have never had any shipped. I have called to pre-order from them and met them at a gun show to pick it up, that way I know what I want will be there.

ProLine Sports on 9th Ave SE in Calgary stocks real BP. Wholesale Sports has not handled it for years. If you attend the Easter Gun Show at Calgary there are vendors who will have GOEX BP for sale. Also, talk to the representatives from the Alberta Black Powder Association at the show and they can offer some suggestions as to sources.

Bilozir is in Okotoks.

Peter the re-enactor grade powder you list, is it a course granule powder comparable to Goex "Cartridge" (or "cannon" for that matter)?

If you are close to the border there are no export regulations on the USA side regarding bringing black powder back and none on the Canadian side except that you are limited to 8 Kg's in one pound containers for each adult in the vehicle. The last I purchased in the USA cost me $17.95 per pound for Goex and $21.95 per pound for Swiss. I try to buy local but availability is usually a factor.
