Where to find a good quality Russian SKS?

Wholesale in the peg is your best bet right now if you're looking for a shooter, not something that will be ultra collectible down the road. By the time you factor in shipping its one of the better deals you'll find. I got one after Christmas for $189, I think the new batch they're asking about $220. FYI Cabelas had a pile of Romanian surplus in for just over $300. Canada Ammo is a touch cheaper with free shipping if you don't mind waiting a few days.

I'd have to agree with kennymo.
Cabela's has some Russian SKS's in that are going for $299.99 and they are "handpicked" to be sold in the store. I bought my SKS on Saturday from Wholesale Sports and I paid $223.99 after taxes ($199.99 before). It's a Russian made SKS from 1954 with all matching serial numbers throughout the gun, never fired, never issued, covered in cosmoline and an overall joy to clean and use the next day. My girlfriend loved the look of the gun and the grain in the wood - so she didn't even get mad when I walked in to buy a box of .303 ammo and walked out with the gun :)

I believe the best bet for local surplus ammo for the SKS (7.62x39) is at the Xtreme Gun Shooting Center located at 141 Larche Ave. E. in Transcona. I bought a crate of ammo from them for just under $305 (taxes included) and I believe there was 1320 or 1340 rounds in the case. It's corrosive, so you have to clean the gun right away but it's worth it for the price you pay.

Hope this helps!

What! 21 posts and no one mentions Weimajacque here on CGN's EE? Shame on all of you! You want a nice SKS, Jacque is your guy.

True enough, I have a very nice SVT from him with no armoury repairs to the stock (unlike my first one). We seemed to be on the subject of low prices and local availability. OP - if you are looking for something more collectible and don't mind spending a few dollars more, look for weimajack posts on the EE. He is highly reputable and usually has some nice picks of the commonly available milsurps. :D

Guys we have many questions about SKS that is coming to our warehouse on June 25th. Please pre order online and put in comments the year you want. We only have hardwood for sale, please be aware of that.

I have a beautiful Russian 1954 in perfect shape. Almost no use and stock that's one in a million.
$500 shipped to your door.

Lol, Tom, asking silly money for an SKS like that is going to make the easterners think that B.C. really stands for Bring Cash! LOL :)
An SKS should be no more than $200, I'm sure they wholesale for about $100.

But wouldn't you want the later dates MORE because of the fixes and what not?

or is it just cuz they are rarer?
Nope. They are all good and lightly used at best. They were refurbed to a high standard. The 49s are more sought after from a collectors point of view due to relative scarcity.

I like how everyone has a view of how much sks cost or wholesale for. If those who " know " how much those wholesale for why don't you buy for a 100 and sell for 200 make a 100 % profit!!! Put 10 000 in and make 10 000 isn't that a great profit.
Anyways you would not find those for 100 in fact prices going up all across the countries that have those. 2-3 years and those will be gone completely. Just keep sitting on the fence now you can then be sorry later.

Hi Gunnutz:

I am looking to buy my first firearm and would appreciate if anyone could tell me where to find a quality Russian SKS.

Thank you.

Check out the EE in the Military Surplus. Many SKS owners get bored with their rifles and will sell with ammo, cheap! Several are for sale now and there is one really nice 1954 Tula for $200.00. The plus side is someone else has had the pleasure of cleaning the cosmoline off the gun so when you get it, its good to go.

I just received 2 Russian 1954 laminated SKS from Huron Rod & Gun . They have a June Special , $ 179 .00 each with FREE Shipping also each SKS includes ammo pouches , stripper clips , oil/ grease bottles with pouch , sling , cleaning tool . Ordered them last Thursday at noon and I received them yesterday noon time ( Monday ) . Both have all matching serial numbers . I spoke to Brad the owner and the email and telephone service was great , looking forward to do business with him again .
