Where to get a 50 bmg?

Just wondering where I go about ordering a 50cal bmg or where I can go to check prices.

Been clicking on our sponsors and haven't found anything yet. Haven't seen one in the classifieds in a while.

Basically looking for 50cal rifle to take out once in a blue moon for ####s and giggles with the shooting buddies.

Thanks for the quick reply, I checked ATRS website and my goodness I never would have thought they would be that pricy :( Such a dream crushing moment.
 
Ohh ammo isn't a big deal, even if it coasted $10-20 a shot... Like I said it would be something that would come out of the safe once in a blue moon.

What is the average cost of 50cal rifle ammo buying/making own? Someone at work was telling me you can only buy them in full metal or total metal jackets (not that it changes anything) and they're about $7 a shot.

And yes I'm sure questions like these been asked a million times on these forums... I did do a search and didn't find a whole lot of information to be honest.
 
AKD, ok that is way more reasonable!

Right now I have my non and restricted license, I own a o/u 12 shotgun for clay shooting which I truly love with all my heart and is cheap to take out for an afternoon of fun. I also have a Savage 99c series A 308 leaver action rifle that my father passed down to me. The rifle is very old, nothing fancy, just a deer hunting rifle.... Though I'm not a hunter, more of a sport shooter/hobby....

I work in the armored truck industry and I'm issued a s&w m&p .45, though hand guns aren't quite my cup of tea to be honest though I would like to someday make a replica 1911 used in face off.

I'm just looking for things I would enjoy like a .50 rifle, mainly non-restricted items.

I know I need to get a .22L rifle, it'll happen, though it's not something I'm really concerned about, just looking for options for something I should start saving for.

So, once in a blue moon you say, 50 rounds at $10.00per giggle= 500.00.
you can buy a whole gun for several giggle events I would think, but it is your money and dream.

Nothing like starting at the top and working down. I would recommend you post a want ad for a Steyr 50bmg, buy it used, and then sell it when you are done. The cost of ownership when you do it that way is significantly reduced as the only cost you will have is ammo and very slight depreciation, as opposed to the big depreciation that comes from buying new. I bet the overall cost will be less than $400 and you will have had much more than that in fun.
 
Have to agree that you should consider a Styer. I found ammo at $7.00 a round the other day and am not sure what reloading cost however the equiptment to reload isn't cheap.

IF ONLY we could get ammo from the US as it is often less than half what it costs here in Canada.
 
Nothing like jumping in with both feet, enjoy your dream and you never know, that 50 might come in handy if they are succesful in cloaning that wooly mammoth.

You can probably find them much cheaper, I noticed all the retailers in Canada jack the prices up a few grand , up to (I've seen as much as) $6,000 on top of what retail is in the US, worst case try importing it yourself, paying $10k for a Barrett is ridiculopus
 
I like my Steyr HS-50 a lot.Wolverine could get you one.I've seen them in the EE from time to time as well.I have no doubt a full custom from ATRS or PGW would be a more accurate rifle.But the big question is whether or not you really need that extra performance.I decided to buy the steyr and get used to that first, and then if I needed a better rifle I'd get a custom.They are a hell of a lot of fun, I wish I used mine more.Happy shooting.
 
Here is another option for you:

SHelve the idea of a .50 BMG and buy a .338 Lapua. Buy a Svage 110BA ffor less than $2K and shoot that for a while. See if you like that dog before moving up to a .50BMG IMO most people work towards a .50 rahter than starting there.
 
The other crappy thing about a .50 is you need a lot of room to really enjoy it, shooting a .50 cal at a 200 yard range is about as much fun as taking a Lamborghini into rush hour gridlock.. you really need a kilometer+ to make use of the rifle. All you lucky guys out west with acres and acres of land know what I'm talking about.

The 50s ARE a ton of fun and guns like cars come in various price ranges.
You can buy a Lada or a Bentley. Both will get you around town, 1 just in a better style:cool:

For S&Gs once in a while I would not even start to consider a high end rifle, it would be a total waste as a shooters accuracy is only kept with shooting regularly.
 
Dizzy + Colt45cz75, Thanks for the input I'm starting a savings account and I'll for sure look into a Steyr as well as many other makes.

What are their average prices in Canada, New/Used? If you could guess.

Armorman, unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to fire a 50 cal before though if there's someone on the island that has one I would LOVE to give it a whirl if they are willing to let me.

Sniper###, That goes for everything in Canada, heck a lot of books are printed in Canada and in the end they cost more here than they do in the states. That being said my lady is duel citizenship with America/Canada and her parents live in the mid west, I'm not really sure what the laws are on buying a firearm in the states and bringing it back over the border though it is a option I will for sure look in to, being a non-restricted should make it a much easier pool to swim threw as well appose to a restricted firearm. Also you mentioned needing a lot of room to fully enjoy one ;) that's why I live in BC, so much land out here, we're spoiled honesty.

Tomochan, Don't get me wrong I fully appreciate your option :) but I am the kind of person that just sets my goals and jumps into the deep ends right away... Kinda like slowly getting into the ice cold ocean... I just run right in and worry about it once I'm there :)

ATR, Thanks for coming here :) I'm going to continue to reach for my dreams and see where I end up, right now I'm just going try and find how much I should save up and seek what 50cal rifle would be best for me. As well as read up about buying rifles in the states and bringing them back home to Canada with me.
