Where to get Kroil?

Brian,

Mark at The PK carries the small containers. You may have to come up for a Sunday Winter League day and let me know your coming and I can pick some up for you.

I used to buy mine at Hardware Sales in Bellingham.

They have all the flavours, plus the big gallon cans with the small ones.

I bought CorrosionX there too. They have it in the small bottles, or the 1 pint spray bottles.

Just curious, but what is Kriol still used for in a rifle application?

I bought some (just because the fancy shooters were using it at the time ) and planed to clean rifles with it...before I got around to it Wipe-out came out and I sold it to a machinist buddy?

Did it fall out of popular favor or something?

What did I miss?:D

Phone you nearest Acklands Grainger. They might have it.

Nope.

Kroil is a great bore cleaner and a very good penetrating oil too (although "they" say that 50/50 ATF and Acetone is better - but don't use it as a bore solvent!).

Finding the stuff was for me the most frustration I've had trying to find a product on-line. Their website (Kano Labs) deliberately makes no mention of Canadian dealers (so as to force purchases from them directly, and an on-line search came up empty.

I finally found a source in Brockville, ON (Hansler Smith 1-800-267-8150), but they were reluctant to mail aerosol, so I coordinated meeting up with their truck when it came to Ottawa.

Kroil in combination with JB bore cleaner is a good cure for stubborn fouling of any type, but has fallen from favour due to the influx of new products. Before I discovered Gun Juice, I used Kroil to burnish my bores. Stick with your WipeOut.

I avoid any water-based bore cleaner like Wipe-Out like the plague. Sure I was negligent, but I seriously rusted up a gun a couple of years ago because I didn't dry every nook and cranny such as the chamber and magazine, not to mention the bore.

Andy, please elaborate. I've used WipeOut extensively without issue, but perhaps I'm missing something. The manufacture claims that no same can occur from leaving the product in the bore indefinitely, and I've taken their word for that.

Kroil

Its main advantage is its viscosity which enables it to creep and cover faster, better, farther, and deeper. It also protects a very long time. Its also the best penetrating oil for stuck, rusted etc. screws I have tried.

I should elaborate as I was careless in reporting that. I don't use Wipe-out anymore because it ate away the finish on one of my guns, but I can't recall any rust from it.

Interesting fact: I was just at a seminar and we were told that HW Sales does over $100 million in sales a year. It is run by a lady in her 90's. Quite an operation.

Wow! I knew it was a family run operation, but I didn't know they raked in that much.

Not surprising though, every time I ever went in there it was packed with people. Their staff are very helpful too.

I think you can buy the 1 pint spray bottles of Break Free there too. Otherwise Wal Mart or Yeagers had it.

That fits with my experience. Wipeout took the color off the bottom of the front sight band on my .375, but I have not experienced any other issue with it, although a damaged finsih on a particularly nice piece it would suck. Perhaps I'll reserve Wipeout for my working guns.
