Which 1911?

Conscript...on the whole...I tend to agree with you...Sam can and do turn out some fine 1911's...and at a reasonable price point..

That's why Iver Johnson, ATI, Seraphim Armoury, STI and a few others trust and use their labor, since they can sell a nice tightly finished product, and make a ton of profit off of them. Colt is thinking about moving some of their 1911 production to the Philippines as well.

If there's one thing to appreciate on a SAM, it's the amount of quality you get for peanuts in terms of labor. Cheap labor does not mean an inferior product, certainly when you have craftsmen with generational experience handed down to them, versus a computer guided mill.

I'd like to see some Seraphim product for myself. I like the fact they are a Canadian company, regardless of the fact the initial product is built in the Philippenes. I like helping out Canadian companies wherever possible. Calibre did a nice article on them recently. They are supposed to be available @ Wholesale Sports but I haven't seen anything listed online or in the store. Anyone seen one for themselves? In BC ???

The current Norincos floating around from the last big import are better made than any of those modern hack jobs with plastic parts and bloated price tags.
Every single part is made of solid steel. They are basically exact copies of the old 1911A1 WWII era production pistols. The steel is exceptionally hard and very high quality as well.
Read up on them on US forums. They are highly regarded even down in the States where the 1911 is a symbol of the size of Americas #####. So that is saying a lot.

Unless you're looking for a modern, tactical, "upgraded" version then obviously a standard A1 isn't your thing.

I just picked one up for $285 like new in the box off the EE.
That's a lot of money left over for expensive pistol ammo or expensive reloading supplies. I know you aren't interested in Norinco but I'm just saying is all......

That's because the 1911A1's that are in the styrofoam box, were meant to be delivered to the USA in 1995, prior to the Clinton ban. Instead, they sat in a warehouse for decades until CanAm bought them, so technically, Norincos of 20 years ago are made better than the ones today (I agree since they were completely forged back then and MIM and CNC didn't really exist in communist China).

I bought a seraphim 1911 last year. Great fit and finish. After shooting it for a while seraphim sponsored me to shoot there guns in ipsc/idpa/uspsa etc. So I've got a chance to deal with the guys and talk to them a lot. Each gun is inspected and taken care of by a great gunsmith. They make sure to get rid of the little imperfections like the others have. So there specs are different and the final product is far superior. Like I said I bought and liked the gun well before I got involved with those guys. And supporting anything Canadian also helps.

if you are lucky,,you could also look for a real deal Colt,,,series 70's are around and under $1000.00 most the time,,i paid $600.00 for my mint 1973 Series 70 in the original box,,,also have 2 Norincos that run perfect too,,,can't seem to break them,,those are the ones i loan friends who want to try 45ACP,,
