Which .30cal monolithic bullet?

I have loaded all 3 in various rifles and they all seem to work fine. In a friends 300 WSM I worked up a load using a 180 E Tip and he has used it to harvest 3 moose so far with excellent results. With it he has shot a 2.5" group at 280 yards. The moose have been shot from 80 yards to 325 yards. I load hornady GMX 165 in my '06 at 2950fps. Shot one moose at 125 yards breaking both shoulders before exiting. Have used 150 FN Barnes TSX in my 307 at 2575 for 1.5" accuracy at 100 yards harvesting a few deer with complete penetration from various angles. I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. They all work very well. Just depends on what your gun prefers and in some cases availability. Seem to be able to find more hornady products compared to the others. Hope that helps

I havent tried the etips but i dont like the fact they dont have the groves on the shank. Ive heard that they seem to show preasure signs at lower powder loads. Ttsx like to be driven fast. The gmx seems to be pretty good too

The E-Tips don't need grooves to reduce pressure spikes like the older Barnes solid copper bullets produced. They are also easy to load for and I have found then quite accurate. They also have better neck tension than grooved bullets which quite often in the larger calibres need to be crimped to hold them in place.

Which brand of monolithic bullet do you prefer for hunting?
Barnes TSX, Nosler E-tip, Hornady?

I have shot animals with all three brands and have found little difference in the terminal performance. I usually try different brands and types until I find the accuracy I am looking for and then go with that bullet.

With all the so-called "boutique" bullets on the market today we shooters are spoiled insomuch as we can usually get both accuracy and performance with every brand on the market.

I use the 168 gr ttsx in my blr in 30-06. have had great results on both moose and caribou at short and longer ranges. I also loaded some for my buddy for his vanguard. The browning groups best with 48.5 gr of imr 4064 while the vanguard prefers 55 gr of imr 4350.
