well i own a taurus revolver in 357 magnum and i love it, even after all the abuse i've put it through it locks up tight and is reliable, although it is an older gun, do the new taurus revolvers hold to the same level of quality?

also i've heard the rugers are indestructable, is this true? bascally if you were going to go out and buy a 44 magnum tomorrow which one would you pick?

and lastly, the taurus raging judge, the one thats capable of firering the 454 cassull and 410 shotshell, does anyone own one? do you like it?

Cost no issue: Freedom Arms
Cost respective: Ruger Single action

I am not a fan of shooting heavy magnums in DA therefore my SA choices.

You'll probably get a few opinions so here's mine.....I only own one 44magnum revolver. Ruger 4.2" Redhawk. I wouldn't say it's indestructible but it seems to be built like a tank. I've shot my friend's S&W 629 and while it was nice my Ruger felt more beefier(?). I hear many say the S&W has a smoother trigger but I honestly couldn't notice that much of a real difference.
If I were to buy a .44mag revolver tomorrow it would be a 4.2" Redhawk:cool:

I have a super blackhawk and a 29. I like them both just fine. I'd try out a Redhawk, but they're basically made out of unobtanium, and the super redhawk is super fugly. Not a fan of the raging bull, either, due to its aesthetics.

I'm sporting this one & it's awesome...

Even if a 4.2 inch smith was available? Ive owed a Redhawk as well and id go with the smith.

The Ruger Redhawk is nice looking, but the super blackhawks and all that i find ugly as sin. If im spending money i want a nice looking gun. Smiths are by far the ###iest out there that can be obtained, imo.

You want a 44 Mag built like a tank and looks/feels great???

Get a Dan Wesson.

Mine feels like I could pistol whip a moose with it. It eats fulls house loads no problems and the trigger is oh so nice.

(E)

I love my Ruger Redhawk (4.2"), but a model 29 is pretty sweet. A used 29 can be had slightly cheaper than a new ruger (Though, not by much I wouldnt think).

It's a toss up I suppose. I have the Ruger and want to buy and chop a model 29. The grass is always greener....

I'm perfectly content with my Redhawk (5.5" barrel.) People tend to say the S&W 29 or 629 is nicer because of its looks and/or a better trigger. Looks are subjective, I'll take their word for it about the trigger, and I'm still happy with my Redhawk. I understand why the S&W commands a higher price (I have a 17-2, the S&W quality is impressive,) but to me it's not worth the extra. If it is to you, you aren't wrong. You know what you like and you know what you can afford.

The style of the SA rugers made them very uncomfortable to shoot for me. I had an older S&W 29-3 with a 10.5" barrel. The worst thing I ever did was to sell it.

IMHO Rugers are beefier but the old S&W operate smooth as silk with an great trigger shooting either DA or SA. Shooting the old 29-3 in SA was like using a trigger on a precision rifle. The accuracy wit the long barrel was way beyond anything a Ruger could achieve.

Unfortunately I do not think current production S&W wheel guns equals what they used to be.

Colt? Other than they are REALLY expensive if you find one in half way decent shape? I believe the .44Mag version was the King Cobra. But the odd time they show up they are up so high in price that you really need to want a Colt specifically to pay the cost.

If you're looking for a fun gun then price wise you're far better to stay with Ruger or S&W.

I tend to like the Super Blackhawk I've got. For .44Mag the slight slowing down forced on me by it being single action isn't an issue at all. But some don't care for the curved "plowshare" style grips. If that's an issue then an N frame S&W or a Ruger Redhawk or Super Redhawk with some Hogue grips becomes a nice option.

I found the blackhawk quite uncomfortable to shjoot with the factory grips, often barking my knuckle on the back of the squared trigger guard. Then I found a set of herrett grips on the EE here (same as the ones here http://www.gunblast.com/Super_Blackhawk.htm) - these lower the hand position on the gun, which does increase the flip and torque, but this is more manageable than a bashed in knuckle. Plus, the roll works well with the single action design - putting you in a good position to #### the action while recovering from the recoil, and actually increasing your rate of fire. Don't fight the roll with a single action - it works in your favour! It's a very different shooting experience than the m29 with pachmayer grips, but I don't know that you could call one 'better' than the other

i've had a ruger redhawk 4.2" on order for over a year, but i am happy to wait as its the best revolver available in canada in my opinion. my friends 6 inch version is awesome. and the 4.2 is even better for my needs.

the only thing id like to have instead, but we cant, is a super redhawk alaskan.
