Given the intrest in the recient "Top 10 Canadian calibers" blog, if you could only have 5 firearms what would those 5 be. My picks would be:
1) Sako Quad in 22LR-great to just go out and shoot, also a great small game rifle/caliber combo.
2) Remington 700 in 223rem, with a Winchester-style 3 position safety (I'm currently having one modified to match my 30-06). This is the great use for it, as it allows you to reload/shoot for at least half of what your big hunting rig costs, and it also makes a good gopher to deer rifle.
3) Remington 700 in 30-06 with the Winchester-style 3 position safety. This is my favorite gun, mine is an ADL with a synthetic stock. I feel that the 30-06 is probably all that you need to hunt in North America. Give me a Hornady 180gr spire point, and I'll tackle anything that comes my way. Some try to argue with this, but they always look like fools doing so.
4) If I'm gonna go bigger that the 30-06, I'm going to go directly to the 375H&H with absolutely no second thought. If I went bigger it would probably be due to a trip to Africa, and the 375H&H will do in Africa what the 30-06 does in North America, and it "IS" the standard to which all others are judged. Not to sound boring, but I would probably build it up like my 30-06 for the sake of familiarity.
5) last but not least, a Mossberg 500 in 12guage, good ol' solid reliable git-er done gun.

tough one!

1) CZ .22lr with a variable scope in the 2-7x or 3-9x range

2) Mauser 98 or Howa actioned 6.5x55 with 3-9x scope

3) Sauer 202 .30-06 with 3-9x or 2.5-8x scope

4) Win mod 70, Mauser custom, CZ or double .375 H&H - with a Leupold 1.76-6x LE in QD mounts

5) Double barrel 12Ga shotgun with 3" chamber, multi choked and proofed for steel, just to ensure versatility

All Blued steel and wood or course;)

1. Ruger 10/22
2. Remington 700 30-06
3. Remington 870 12 G
4. Smith and Wesson stainless 686 in .357 Mag
5. Reproduction black powder rifle that looks like an old timer rifle.

- 22 LR------------------Ruger 10/22, rifle
- 44 Mag----------------4" S&W model 29, handgun
- Brno OU---------------7x57R/12ga, combo
- Schultz & Larsen-------308 NM, rifle

- Rock River Arms AR .223 w/ Aimpoint M3
- Kimber Tactical Entry II, .45 ACP
- Remington 700, .30-06

- Browning A5 w/ old wood stock

You KNOW that you're being excessively cruel to limit us to ONLY 5, right?

If it came down to it I guess it would be;

- My model 19 S&W revolver. They just do not come any better and I've got one.

- A .22 bolt action with a nice scope. I've got a Cooey/Win 600 that's great but a nice CZ would be sweet.

- My Marlin/Glenfield .30-30 lever rifle with a scope for my old guy eyes. This thing is amazing and it's not going ANYWHERE ! ! ! !

- A TC Encore chambered for 45-70. What an amazing gun to shoot.

- The last one would be a tossup between my 1911 and my S&W 422. I know it's a huge jump from a .22 to a .45 but I've so enjoyed shooting my 422 that it would be hard to give it up. I'm just glad I don't need to make an actual decision.

If I could have any 5, it wouldn't include a RemchesterRuger;)

1) Anschutz 1712 Silhouette Sporter .22LR
2) NULA Model 20 Rifle in 6mm Remington
3) Satterlee Custom 280 Rem. on Titanium Mauser Action
4) Satterlee Custom British Express Rifle in .375H&H w/ Octagon barrel
5) Beretta Extrema 2 Max4 KO, 28"

Figure I'd need ~$40,000 to get this list, not including glass...

I just realized that there's no where on that list for my Remmy 870. NO collection is complete without a pump shottie. The sound they make chambering a shell is just too primal for words to express.

Like I said, you're cruel for this 5 gun limit. CRUEL! ! ! ! :D

Now if it was five LONG GUNS with some added handguns then I think I could manage.

- Remington 870 with a naughty short barrel and a longer useful barrel :D

- That CZ bolt action .22 with a nice scope

- My same Marlin/Glenfield lever with scope in .30-30 that shoots so nice.

- TC Encore in .45-70.

- A nice condition or even NIB wartime Garrand M1 just because the PING they make at the end is worth taking up a position on this list.

Now this is 100% different the last was 10 of ALL times. This is Firearms and only 5 would have to be

Need a shot gun...12g with slug barrel and smooth bore barrel (beretta 391 )
need a plinker...22lr (annie)
need a deer.moose.bear gun... 30-06 (sako)
Need a mag of some sort so lets go 375 H&H (win pre 64)
I guess I need a target rifle lets say a ATR or PGW 308

did not mention handguns, just because we cant use em for nothing but paper

My custom 700rem in 222rem
6.5x55 swedish mauser with all the mods
win 94 32spl
cooey 75 22lr
mossberg 12ga bolt action

Here is five I already own that could cover any situation that might arise.

1) Marlin Golden 39A in .22 rimfire.

2) Winchester Model 70 in 22-250.

3) Ruger #1 in 30-06.

4) Browning BPS 12 Gauge.

5) Ruger GP100 .357 revolver.

Hmmm...bit of a wish list here - something to work towards.

1. Rem 870, 18" barrel with ghostrings - always need the shotgun

2. AR15 - just because I love them, and they're combat proven

3. Ruger 10/22 - possibly the most common rimfire

This is where it gets hard - narrowing everything else down to 2.

4. Remington 700 in .308 - at this point it can shoot better than me for any long range work

5. Colt 1911 in .45, or Tokarev 7.62 - close in defense
