I have a 22" CM .284" sporter barrel crowned and chucked up in the lathe ready to thread and chamber.......and a long 700 action with .473" bolt face.....what shoud I ream it to?...I have reamers for 280 Rem, 280 Ackley, 284 Winchester and I could borrow a 7mm Mauser.........what chamber should I cut?...I have 7-08 and 7-08 Ackley reamers too, but it is a long action.....or should I twist the barrel out of the 6mm 700 and do the 7-08 or the 7-08AI...maybe I should run a poll, it might be up for sale when I get it blued..

Which Calibre?

.
You are in Alberta. You have everything from flatlands to mountains. You have everything from gophers to Elk and Moose.

You have a long action. Chamber it for .280 Remington or .280 Ackley. Either will work well for your area.

Definetly 284 win.!!!!!!!!!!! Since you have it in the lathe...Lengthen the chamber for a 3.1" OAL and you can get 7mm mag ballisticts. I did this to a 98 action(1909) and its a killer. JITC

.280 Remington. I sure love mine. If I were to sell my .280, ever, it would be to buy another .280. For me, the performance gains of the Ackley aren't an issue, the standard chambering will do anything I want it to at ranges I'm competent to shoot.
That said, I like all 7mm's up to and including the 7mm Rem Mag.
