Which Bullet?

I've used lots of bullets in .300's. These days I use a 150gr TTSX as an all around bullet in my 300WSM, but I also like the 175gr LRX and the 180gr NAB. I'm not much of a fan of partitions anymore despite using them for years, as if I want that type of performance I will pick the NAB, which gives you Partition like performance in a sleeker package. Apparently I'm not the only one that thinks htat as NP sales have been slumping for the last few years while the NAB sales are strong.

Lots of great .30 bullets out there. You practically have to go to extremes to screw it up.

That's honest truth. Personally I've always liked the Partition. Depends how you're going to put it to use.

Not sure why a person would want to trade in an M70 Classic for a Steyr.

Barnes TTSX.
There is difference in performance of X bullet and TSX and TTSX. I am using Barnes TTSX for all hunting.
Barnes TTSX 150 gr in 30-06.
Barnes TTSX 180 gr in 300 Win Mag. 100 y 5 shot group .626" ( see above).
Barnes TTSX 225 gr in 338 Win Mag.

I like their performance and accuracy.

This is TTSX 180 gr .308 bullet recovered from bull Elk shot from 300 Win Mag at 60 y quartering towards me after 3 feet of penetration.
There was 2 inches entry wound and we can see twig trapped in petals. This bullet opened on some branches before connecting with target.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I'll be looking closer at the ttsx. What I saw looked pretty impressive and I am a Barnes fan. As for trading in my old model 70, I'm not. It's my first and will always be in the stable but as mentioned, it's a little tired. As for Styer, I've only heard great things about them. ???

Only thing with the Barnes is they need velocity to expand....heavier bullet means lower starting velocity, which means shorter effective range.
For example the 180 TTSX at 2900fps will drop to 2200fps at 400yrds which is around the lowest reliable expansion velocity.
The 150TTSX at 3200fps drops to 2200fps at 500yrds.

This is a tired old wives tale. I've shot antelope to moose with the Barnes TSX and TTSX. It reliably expanded on the ribs of an antelope at 546yds. Same load expanded on a half dozen coyotes from 200-600yds. Vanilla 7mm 140gr TTSX at 2900fps. In 15 years of using Barnes ive never seen them hard to expand.

For the OP, I'd stick with what you've got. It'll work just so reliably it'll bore you.

Well, maybe in your experience, but I have in my possession not 1, but 2 TTSX Barnes that failed to expand. A 168 30-06 and a 250 338 Win Mag. [I still use them, but they are not my first choice.]

I like the Accubonds, and in the short time I have been using them, results have been excellent, both close in and way out there.
The Swift Scirocco is also an excellent bullet, but does not shoot well in all rifles.

Of course, my bullet for comparison is the venerable Partition. In 50 years of hunting with them, I have found them to be reliable and deadly.
There are a number of other good bullets out there, but availability and functionality in a given rifle are often negative factors.
Some seem to put a lot of importance on cost, but I think that is a bit of a Red Herring. Bullet cost is but a small part of the cost of hunting today.

Regards, Dave.

Swift Scirocco

They don't shoot well enough in the rifles I've tried them in except for one.
Same with the TTSX, it will not match the Accubond in most rifles.
The Nosler Partition is not a benchrest bullet for accuracy but in most of my guns it is consistent and it has shown good results on game..

For the money, the best bullet to date is the Fusion/DeepCurl. It's very accurate, and holds together very well. Penetration is good.

I really wish they would make it in a 225gr .35 cal.
