I am partial to a nice full stock, European hunting rifle. If I was to buy one for hunting, and not for showing off, then I would either get a Sako, or a CZ rifle because they work, and I would'nt start to cry if I scratched it, unlike a $3500 rifle that I would be so worried about it the whole time I was out, and it would effect my hunting style. I guess if I was Moose hunting, then I would be able to get away with a beautiful gun because I am hunting in a more wide open NorthWestern Ontario area that the rifle is not subject to any bushwacking. If I am Deer hunting, then I am best suited with a Synthetic/Stainless hunting rifle because my stuff never comes back the same after another Deer hunting trip in the thick forests of Central Ontario and the Loring Deer yard. We take turn pushing the bush and sometimes it requires a great deal of bushwacking, so a beautiful rifle is'nt a good thing to bring.

Blaser R93, no question. I don't like detachable mags on hunting rifles, otherwise I like the Sauer also (but not as much as the Blaser). The cocking lever/safety on the Mauser M03 feels very awkward to me. I also prefer the scopes mounted on the barrels as per the Blaser system. I have two R93's now, and plan on a few more barrels in addition to the .300Win and .375H&H on them. Once you get accustomed to the straight-pull bolt (fast, fast, FAST!) and the cocker/decocker system, no other hunting rifle compares. Interchangeable barrels, perfect return-to-zero detachable scope mounts, incredible accuracy, easy takedown for compact transport and wonderful factory triggers are icing on the cake.

If I have to stay under $3500 there is only one rifle:
CZ 550 express in 9.3x62 mause, its around $3200 US funds!
second choice would be over the limit but, oh well:
John Rigby Mauser in 9.3x63mauser with Rigby bolt peep site, high gloss bluing, AAA walnut, jeweled bolt and checked bolt knob, express sights with Nieder but plate! I can dream can't I! would also like above 2 rifles in 300 H&H!cheers Dale Z!

Wait a minute here guys,

I am surprised that nobody has been screaming for the OP th get a Mauser M03. One day thats what I'm going to get. I don't like the reciever on the sauers because the are kinda closed and not easily accessible (correct me if I'm wrong). I don't know anything about the Voere. Good luck too, I called about a Mauser and it would be 3 to 6 months to get.

Husqvarna made their last rifle somewhere in 1971. After that 'til 1984 osr so, they (only the 1900 actions) were made at Carl Gustav, who sent their machinery to Belgium for a couple of years, then, sold it to Antonio Zoli, who still produce the rifles today. So, any of the currrent HVA (very scarce) or CG are made in Italy, by Zoli. It's much easier to find a Zoli 1900 than anything else.
BTW, the higher grades are very nice rifles. Maybe worth adding to your possible choices.

If it was me, i'd base my choice on a certain type of rifle, say CRF over Push-feed, modern alloyed receiver over old rugged steel ones and on... as an example, I really like the Heym Mausers but I also like the Sako M/85 Bavarian style... it really depends on your own taste.

Pedersoli Jaeger flintlock rifle in 54 cal.

Nice short rifle with a 3/4 " flint size flintlock, nice walnut stock, nice looking arm, sure to be accurately bringing down large game in your great grandchildren's time.

Beautiful styling, accurate and durable, what else could you want out of a rifle??;)

I wouldn't buy any of them, they're all too pricey for what you get. Instead I would build a custom rifle on a Mauser action and get exactly what I want.

So far, I'm really leaning towards Heym or Mauser. Blue Line still have a Heym SR 30 in stock but it's in 8x68mmS. Anybody could tell me more about the straight pull bolt design and the bolt locking system without lugs?

A Sako Bavarian would be the first choice. Second place would be a Steyr Luxus. Or a CZ 550 with the Bavarian stock, if I wanted to keep the price down.

I am surprised that so many people like the Sako Bavarian, but none have mentioned the Sako Classic. To me the Classic is much nicer, or the new Classic Deluxe...
