^^ This ^^Don't buy new. Don't buy Mossberg.
Well I looked at the one that was linked up above and my offer was accepted. Looks like I'll be dipping my toes in the water with a Glenfield model 30 (336 essentially). I'm not a fan of the wood, so I may order a Boyd's upgrade and toss on a red dot for the dark bush I get into. But I also have to split the gun with the wife as she's coming out with me this year.

Why buy a Mossberry when you already have two proven brands of lever actions? They certainly got it right a long time ago, thus the suggestion to buy a good older used one. The used Win and marlins seem to be going up in price but the mooseberry not so much.Is there a specific reason for the Mossberg hate ? Other than they released that horrid 'tactical' version?
The reviews I've read seem generally positive and the couple I handled in store seemed quite decent. I already have a Win 94 and a Marlin 336 so I doubt I need another one but if somebody was shopping for m94 clone and didn't want to spend Miroku money on the new Winchester (or buy used) I would at least take a look at the Mossberg 464.
Scope on a lever gun? blasphemy!
There was a time a few years back that I would have agreed with you, nowadays it's not a matter
of choice....
