The Redhawk will make you giggle.
I would look at perhaps a Ruger single action in .45 Colt. It's almost approaching .44 mag in terms of pressures, ballistics.
Also don't overlook .357 Rem Mag chamberings. If you like 1911's, Coonan makes a wonderful 1911 that chambers .357 Rem Mag, and with the switch of a recoil spring, .38 specials. I have an affinity for Ruger firearms, so I would recommend a GP 100 to scratch that revolver itch in .38/.357.
As great as Ruger firearms truly are, there is just something about a model 29 that the Ruger doesn't quite reach. There is an elegance about a Smith and Wesson, I'll add Colt revolvers in there as well. You are not just paying for a brand name. They are better. (If Rugers are tanks, Colts and Smiths are Rolls Royce's)
