So after quite a while, I'm back into handguns!

I've always loved the Sig P220 but I can't decide which one to get?
Combat (with black grip and SRT)? The Platinum? The Elite Dark?

So I'm looking for any and all feedback on these beauties and all P220's in general.

I picked up the 220 carry elite dark earlier this year and have not regretted it. Out of the box at 10 yards 5 rounds touching dead center. This has been flawless not even one issue and I have over 2000 rounds through it already. The balance and fit for me is excellent and I really like the military sights it came with. With the double/single action I do not have to carry this with the hammer back as I would with my 1911, to me this was important for a carry gun. I would make this purchase again in a heartbeat.

I have the serious hots for the stainless elite with the rosewood grips. Unfortunately I have already blown the budget for a while

Thanks guys!

Are there any benefits to having the beavertail on there?

albsch,
Does yours have the aluminum grips?
If so, how do you like them?

My choice is not on your list but I would suggest a 220 ST or an Elite stainless. I have a 220 ST which has been great and the extra weight makes it very easy to shoot.

None of them!

I wouldn't buy any of them. If accuracy is your game, then all the Sigs mentioned do not have a front barrel lockup. You will get military groups only. This is not just true with the Sigs, but with all semi-auto's that have NO front barrel bushing.
Op for a 1911 style pistol instead. However, if you are wedded to the Sig line and have tons of money that other makers can produce with the same results but cheaper, buy the Sig 1911. It is a very good gun, accurate, beautiful, and will shoot rings around any P220. My opinion. BTW, love your avitar!

He wasn't asking if he should buy a 220 but what 220 to buy.

Personally I would not buy any 22X without a beavertail. Shot my buddies regular 226 and don't like it compared to my 226 Elite.

None of the above, I personnaly wouldn't buy a P220, I much prefer the 1911 platform. But if I had to buy a P220, the only version I would consider is the Super Match on any given day and twice on Sunday.

Well, I already have a 1911 Commander and I really don't mind military groups at all since I'm an utterly poor shot with handguns anyhow. I do also practice with a .22 handgun to get better.

Reason being that I want a Sig P220 is that I've always loved them. Pure and simple.
The only turn off for me so far, with regards to the Combat and Platinum, are that they don't feature the SRT out of the box. But they sure are purdy.

As for the Elite Stainless, I was looking for something less heavy yet all metal.

Are the P220's picky with ammo?

Thanks and please keep the input coming in since I'm still far from deciding!

There's a Platinum that's not an Elite? Might want to have a second look at that. Regardless, my vote is for the Dark Elite b/c I like the SRT, don't mind beavertails, and to be frank, think the Platinum Elite looks like a plastic toy in real life. If it were me, though, I'd grab an Equinox and throw an SRT kit in it. Now THAT'S a pretty gun.

Oh, and I hate aluminum grips. What a stupid effing idea.

Edit: Just re-read what H Callahan wrote, and I agree. If you come across a Super Match, grab it. Pass on the 220 Match though, nothing really special about those.

Oops, so the Platinum does have the SRT.

I have looked at pictures online, and I do have to agree with acm, looks like a toy. Mainly due to the grips.

The only thing that I don't like about the Equinox is the fiber sights. Not a huge fan.

But, I may just get the Elite Dark and change the grips to those of the Equinox. If they fit and the they are available.

Still highly undecided about the whether or not to get a threaded barrel. I just don't see me getting any real use out of it other than lcf and high sights.

If they did offer an all out Dark version of the Super Match with target night sights, no brainer for me especially considering the minimal price difference. Maybe a Super Match with Equinox grips?

Are the Match series completely made in Germany?

Looks like the poll is leaning for Elite Dark!

Is it possible to get both the short trigger and the SRT all in one?

I actually thought I'd LIKE the Platinum based on the pictures. It's way worse in person. Mainly because of those stupid aluminum grips.

Equinox grips are fairly available, but so are sights. Also keep in mind that SIG wood grips are fairly beefy, to say the least, and you might very well decide that another brand or material suits you better.

Sounds like you'e got a handle on the threaded barrel issue. Not quite sure why they bring them up here....

Finally SRTs and short triggers have nothing to do with one another, you can have one, the other, both or neither, however plenty of people are finding that the short trigger is the solution to a problem they never had. I'm fine with the regular trigger (and even with a skeletonized one that's slightly thicker than stock) and I don't have ginormous paws.

acm, You've pointed out some very great key areas. Thank you!

I was actually looking at the Hogue checkered G10 grips but they are pricey as hell.

The only reason I'd ever get one with a threaded barrel is if I had a light that sticks out past the barrel. The Viridian C5L or X5L Gen2 would look so sweet underneath though!
