I know Ontario requires guns to be encased on 6 sides 30+ minutes before sunrise, and 30+ minutes after sunset when hunting. Before I slog through the regs for all provinces and territories, can anyone tell me if they know of any others with similar requirements?

Thx

6 sides? that doesnt make any sense

here for sask
you can drive around all day in your truck with a nr rifle/shotun uncased
now certain zones (not many) you allowed to travel point a to point b on an ATV with the rfile enclosed/cased
otherwise all other zones it illegal to travel on a sled/atv open carry a firearm

By 6 sides they mean top/bottom/sides, and closed at muzzle and butt. Most here just use some sort of a fabric gun sock with a draw string, or a zippered soft case. It doesn't apply during daytime hours and in your vehicle, but let's say you're hiking into your stand 1 hr before sunrise, it must be encased until 30 minutes prior to sunrise. Same thing on your hike back out 30+ minutes after sunset.

ah i see now
nope not in sask, you can carry your rifle as long as its unloaded.
you have a round in the rifle before hunting time, that could lead to charges,if caught

I've always been told by Alberta and Newfoundland CFOs as long as it's out of sight out of mind and non-restricted they don't care, but Alberta could have changed now, restricted and prohibited locked up in a safe or cabinet as long as it takes a s*** ton of effort to break into it's good enough

Interesting. In Ontario you can open carry on your ATV/bike/sled/car/truck/boat as long as it’s unloaded.

BC doesn’t have any case requirements. (Other than waterfowl, you can only have one shotgun ready to
go IIRC).
Also, no provincial restriction on hours of discharge for firearms, but hunting is one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.

A full hour, eh? Geez that’d be mighty dark, especially in the thick stuff. Hard to imagine safely identifying game in that light.

nope cant do it here
this time last year we got 4ft plus of snow,so hunters were using sleds to get to their hunting stands
cause we couldnt get across the fields, loads get fined for it,hunting/wildlife act clearly states this
but you can use a truck

Well, yeah, I suppose. Such things exist here as well after dark, along with coon hunting at night. But for regular old deer and moose, I’d imagine an hour after sunset is pretty darn dark. I know here, there’s been several times when it’s cloudy and overcast, that I hike back to camp before the end of shooting light because it’s so dark 1/2 hour after sunset.

Strange. I carry a firearm of one kind or another year round on a quad, boat or skidoo here in northern Sask. I've encountered conservative officers that only checked to make sure it's unloaded. I also always have them encased.

Except when it comes to migratory game birds, then it 1/2 hour after sunset or before sunrise.

In reading over the regulations I see that the rules vary depending upon the area and time of year. Some areas don't allow vehicle use and game corridors like in the north specify that firearms must be encased while passing through. Best to read the regs over carefully depending on the area since they widely vary.
