Which shotgun? Remington 870 vs Mossburg 500?

Get this one from Mossberg. Metal trigger guard and safety, thick barrel, 1 in the chamber and 8 in the pipe, adjustable stock with pistol grip!!! Plus it's very taticool.

Every guy with a "in the dirt shooting at bad guys" review I've read rate it very well.

Have FUN H:S:

I have a rem 870 express. I love it. Steel receiver, easy maintenance. The 2 cons are that it jams with the cheap wallmart value pack ammo, and that it will easy rust if not properly oiled.

The mossberg is lighter (aluminum receiver) and feels cheaper in my hands. The action is smoother than the 870

The only ####ty thing about 870's is the finish, it's too rough to clean properly, and attracts all kinds of dirt, fingerprints etc you gotta oil it all the time and it's a pain in the ass.

I was told that the trigger guard on the new mossburg 500 was plastic (type of plastic)

what you want is the Mossberg 590A1 SPX. Its full metal; Trigger AND trigger guard. It comes with a fiber optic front sight, ghost ring rear sight and a ported barrel. It also comes with an Ontario M-9 Bayonet. Its a great shotgun so far.

My reason for buying that gun over the Remington was for two reasons:

1. the Mossberg came with some upgrades (listed above) and i really liked them. The fiber optic sight alone (IMHO) was worth it.

2. i hear at the time when i was about to make my purchase that remington was undergoing some quality control issues. this may have been unfounded, but i didn't want to take the chance, so i opted for the Mossberg.

the only thing i would change on the mossberg is the stock; i wish it had a slightly shorter stock. this will be easily rectified though. other than that, its a great gun.

i hope that helps!

The 870 vs. 500 debate is about as bad as .45 vs. 9mm debates!

I was always more partial to the Mossberg, I seem to recall there was some part or another on the Remington which was brazed whereas it was welded on the Mossy. Been so long I can't remember what it was now. I don't think it really matters though, I do find the Mossbergs to be a bit better than the 870 Express models in terms of finish/action so I'd stand by that decision.

Don't forget the mossberg 535 same thing except has a super mag can fit 3.5 shells :)

Even though I never used it and probably won't for hunting, I still love having it as an option because in my mind the shotgun is stronger than everyone elses muahaha

I would go with the Remington 870 .Over the years I have owned a number of these shotguns with never any trouble with any of them.
