I have a new unfired SKS-D that has been sitting in the back of my safe since probably the mid 90's. I am guessing it was made by Norinco but it doesn't say Norinco anywhere on the rifle.

This is what I know:

-the receiver is milled
-the barrel is threaded on
-blade bayonet
-takes AK mags
-all matching serial numbers (389xx)
-the only other marks on the receiver other than the serial # is "SKS 7.62X39MM MADE IN CHINA BY XZ"

Anyone know if it is in fact a Norinco model and when it may have been produced? The serial number seems a bit low compared to some other SKS's I have seen.

Any info you may have on this would be appreciated. I haven't had much luck in my searches.

Thanks

i'll say you got norinco bcos lack of factory code and lack of 3 chinese letters but the blade bayo are usually found on early chinese .

Your SKS-D was one of a few early types imported here in the late 80s/early 90s. Several features differ from the later "D" versions, particularly the mag release (looks like the standard type and not the later "flapper" type) and use of a blade bayonet.

XZ is Xhong Zhu (also seen as Zhong Zhu). Significance of the name is not known by me but there were Commercial Type 59 Makarovs sold here called the Zhong Zhu and had ZZ prefix serials (military Type 59 were marked "59 Shi" in latin alphabet).

A Norinco export for all intents and purpose.

my norinco SKS-D differ from yours .
- i got spike bayo
- pinned barrel
- serial number in the millions 9,5XX,###
- "SKS 7.62X39MM MADE IN CHINA" , no "BY XZ" .

you are kinda right there , they were sold by norinco but it was mod from an existing already made SKS , sometimes an early chinese SKS that was mod .

Were they all modded? Or were some actually like factory made.
I would call it a waste of a SKS, but I guess there's enough around you can waste a few thousand for a neat thing like an SKS-D.

yes, they were all mod at the factory .

not a waste , public wanted another variant so they made it , the high price tells you there is a bigger demand then avail.

For the blade and spike bayonet I believe that anything with a serial number below 9000000 had a blade and anything above it had a spike. My sks d Has a spike with a number above 9000000.

minor correction , it was changed somewhere in the 9 million from blade to spike so for a fac26 1965 would be the last year it had both the blade and spike .

also the public wanted a short barrel variant so they made the para .

Thanks for the responses guys.:)

I figured it to be an import by Norinco, but with such a low serial number I was curious as to which factory it may have orginally come from. I bought it new and have never fired it. I may just put it up for sale as I need the space in the safe for other projects in the works.

Cheers!
