Which SKS optic solution do you prefer? BadAce, Magwedge, something else?

I've owned a few of the different full-length options; I've been happy with the Magwedge one on the top SKS, but I've always wanted to try the "scout mount" style, as I'm usually just using red dot optics. Just got the "BadAce Tactical" version. Seems well-built and rock solid; haven't had a chance to shoot it yet though. Serves as a functional iron sight when there's no optic mounted too, which is nice.

Any other options I should consider for additional SKSs I may or may not own?

If you have good eyesight to see the sight at the muzzle end, you can mount a red dot using a barrel-to-light-ring OR barrel-to-Pic-rail. I had it on one a few years ago, but found it awkward putting into a soft case so quit.

Ha, I actually tried that setup at one point! Better than nothing, I suppose, but it didn't work for me - I need my face closer to the red dot.

Why do people try to bubba the SKS into looking like a Dali painting? Are you THAT desperate to own something you can't?

I've owned an AK, they just aren't that good. Why not leave the SKS alone and respect it as an SKS? 🤷‍♂️

Who cares lol. Some people like different ergonomics. Some people like a different look. Maybe they find working on parts and wood for it fun. The stock LOP is for a midget. Lots of reasons. But its their gun and they want to is good enough, no?

Heck, I'll take an AK though. Would be plenty good enough for me.

None. No optic. Irons on a sks.
Paint the front sight bright (they are hard in the bush to see) and rock ans roll.

I do not find them accurate enough to warrant optics.

That's why I'd want an optic on it. The sights being a bit hard to focus on, especially in certain lighting.

I mostly used the magwedge style, and they worked well for tens of thousands of rounds, using a scope. Occasionally they would need a bit of tuning up or a new pin in the front. No, they aren't as rocksteady as a traditional scope mount on a bolt action but there is only so much you can do without getting out the bubba welder :)

From my personal research and me being new to the SKS platform i have found that the Magwedge rail is the best option and lots of good reviews on it

I see they are are $97 on Amazon.ca

Price seems pretty good as many other major retailers sell them for 130$ +

Anyone know where they are cheaper to purchase other than Amazon?

Likely bcuz GEN.4. is more expensive. The one on Amazon probably is older gen. Difference being, no roll pin to 'lock' the front in. So, you can 'Pivot' it up, after detaching the rear.

I want the Gen 3.5 or 4, that has a cut out to use Stripper clips. I'm not afraid to botch' one, to try a DIY solution on that lol
Be interesting if the integrity is still there if I cut it... 🤷‍♂️ Have to find a cheap one to check that out.

You sold these 'puppies', haven't you? or, least I remember them being in the EE awhile ago.
Did you DIY/Mod the grips on? Looks a little odd, but I know the function was there.

I like the sks with the irons it comes with
That said I have a Russian version of the mag wedge rail and it works good it’s solid and doesn’t wiggle
It’s just more of a pain when you need to clean the rifle
Also I think those “bubba” sks posted above look sweet great job on those!

When SKS' first got my attention, I bought a Chinese replacement top cover with a piece of scope rail on it. The front is a rivet, and the back is an eccentric hole and a screw. Always reliable, so I don't know where the idea that all top cover bases are wiggly junk comes from.

There is a big difference between a red dot sight and a rifle scope. You are correct on the rifle scope. The SKS is nowhere near accurate enough and the mounting options are mostly cr@p.

However a red dot sight mounted on the rear sight block is actually very effective and solves the problem of iron sight visibility in dark or shady conditions.

Any rails that aren't wiggly AF? I've seen a few at the range lately that have been... not great.
The Bad Ace rear sight mount is not wiggly at all.

That is one of the better looking options I've seen.

Looks cool.

How do you line your eye up.
The comb height is made to work with the irons.
Chin weld instead of cheek?
Good dots are mostly paralax free but that is a huge height difference from the irons.

I like using dots. All the advantages you stated plus more make them valuable. High end lpvo with 1x can drive like a dot as well . sk to me will always be a $250 can tire special for poor kids. Old habits are hard to break.
