Which slug is more deadly???

I am starting to think people who question the stopping power of over an ounce of lead at close range have never shot a living animal with over an ounce of lead at close range...

I can attest that "uncle willie" knows different where the original poster is concerned. Oh wait, uncle willie went down from a .17. lol

I figure if the bear is still going after I unload all the slugs into it of whatever size they may be, it earned killing me fair and square.

Oh Jesus, what's with these "which round is better for?" posts. Someone has to start one for butterflies and inch worms soon.

You said it! These threads remind me of the "...can a tiger kill a lion ? " type of question.

Bear hunt

i recently had a bear experience, and i'd like to share.

I got my browning bps 10g back from "tactical paradise" a month ago. I know i spent 2x the price of the original gun on mods, but it was well worth it. Chopped to 18", teflon coated and decked out with tac, i was good to go.

So, i headed out on a back country trip, ever vigilant for bear, the bane of my existence.

Day 3: I heard something the other day. It might have been me kicking in my sleep, but to play it safe i haven't slept in 36 hrs.

Day 4: Pretty sure i saw a bear this am while i was cooking my mre. I better attach the light/laser to the bps.

Day:5 a raccoon stole my mre's this am. Pretty sure it was laughing at me. Is that possible?

Day 6: This was it. Zero hour. My camp was invaded by a rabid black bear at 0500hrs today. I grabbed the bps, loaded, and waited.

Day 6, entry 2: It happened. I saw the bear. It looked right at me. I was food.

It came within 75m, i knew it was him or me. I shouldered the gun, aimed, and fired.

After about 3 hours, i regained consciousness. No sign of the bear. My nose stopped bleeding after about an hour, i did recover one of my front teeth. The wife is yelling about the beer cans on the lawn, so, i'll call this hunt quits.

Tritium. I'll need more tritium for the next hunt. Or should i say "operation."

I can't seem to figure this out...

Which would be more ideal for stopping a raging animal:

(ONLY these two slugs are being compared here - nothing else).

*Both are 3"

1) 1 oz slug @ 1760 fps

or

2) 1¼ oz slug @ 1600 fps

The lighter faster slug or the heavier slower one???

both are gonna effin hurt whatever they hit.

Assuming we're talking bear defense (rather than hunting) there is some small advantage to a slightly slower slug. Close in (i mean very close in) slower slugs are less likely to break up and are more likely to penetrate deeply even if they hit bone.

Having said that, at a rough guess if you shot about 500 enraged attacking bears, maybe possibly you might notice a difference that was even remotely measurable in 2 of them :)

I tend to prefer 2 3/4 for bear defense guns. The bear won't care.
