I will however heed the CGN advice and not use my Rigby. I will use a normal gun like my M1 Carbine. That way nobody should get upset that there was some meat damage.
No one is upset that you used the .416. It's a bit troubling that you think that has anything to do with it...
nah we buds motorcycle handlebar man
Maybe NHunter will lend me his 30-30 that performs like a 416 Rigby
It's really no mystery if you give it some thought. Practical experience is of some value, but you really don't have to wonder too much.
.416 Rigby firing a 400 gr. bullet at a top velocity of slightly over 2400 fps. Bullet is constructed to hold up on heavy game like Cape Buffalo. Bones of which have been known to flatten or cause FMJ bullets to come apart.
30-30 firing a 150 gr. bullet at slightly over 2400 fps (and a bit faster than the Rigby if we want to split hairs). Bullet is lightly constructed, and meant to open up on small Whitetail Deer, not renowned for difficulty to kill.
A big Buffalo can weigh ten times as much as normal sized WT buck.
The bullet diameter difference is 108 thousandths of an inch.
Why are people surprised when a medium bore doesn't blow light game to pieces?
