Are you guys really serious that they allow the use of dogs in some provinces?

Sorry guys but that is something I have a hard time dealing with. That is just as bad as armchair hunters in my book.:( very:(

I would really like to know how many would actually hunt if the use of dogs were not permitted.

Get out there and walk.

I've talked to guys that have done it and I've seen one video of a deer hunt using dogs... not my cup of tea to put it mildly, at least not the way it was done in the video. It might be ok if the dogs are just used to flush the deer and not #### chase them all to hell and back.

When you hunt in northern Ontario in the real heavy bush A dog is real handy at getting the deer out of the thick stuff .We cant all live in the prairy provences. watch a movie called Where The Red Fern Grows it will give you some insite on hunting with dogs and also is there any difference if say I was to drive out the bush. Cuz I go alone with my dog all the time

That means pheasant, birds, coon, and rabbit hunting with a dog are wrong?
I dont belive so.

But, I can agree with you on some points, people with tons of dogs chasing down one deer does seem very wrong to me. I could see someone using dogs if there was thick brush, or areas that are hard for people to walk eg: forest gullies... worst part of hunting is driving gullies 40ft deep, then I could see a dog being more than useful.

Glad you

clarified the way you hunt wth your dog. I can live with the one on one with man's best friend. I just see images of multiple dogs and hunters and a whole lot of Ya Whoing!!!!!!!

Hunting rabbits can fall into the same category. The use of dogs for retrieval of birds I find nothing wrong. If it were not for the dogs there would be a lot more dead birds not found.

In regards to heavy bush I grew up right next to Riding Mtn National Park. Heavy bush. We still walk it and takes our chances that something may make its way out the way we hope to push it out.

But again this my own opinion and we are entitled to our opinions. I guess if I grew up with that style of hunting it would be a different story.

As a matter of fact I also see issues with the problems of baiting for bears. They get used to the free meals and being around human scent that they are not intimidated by man's presence. Just ask my parents. They could shoot about 4 bear every spring off of there doorstep. If Dad could get around a little better he probably would.

For the umptenth time:

Hunters have no business chastising other hunters, if we can't depend on support from each other, than who will support us??

If it is legal, there is a reason for it, let it lie.

My thoughts exactly. You can bait deer in Sask but not here in AB. You can use electronic calls to hunt predators just about everywhere BUT Alberta. I don't have to wear hunter orange, most Eastern provinces do. Different rules set up for the realities of different provinces.

How dare you guys say I can't chase after deer  ;)

Dogs have been bred for hunting deer/elk and things of the sort for hundreds of years.

What do you think a Noregian Elkhound was used for?

Nothing better than a valley hunt with my hounds and my buddies. We have 1 week a year in November for dogs, 2 if you have lots of time off, nothing wrong with that.

we used to have dogs at our camp but no longer use them... we do drives with guys barking instead and it gets the deer moving quite well.. the hunt camp beside us has 7 dogs then they used for multiple run a day... to each their own

Hear, hear.....................

What RIDEN said.

I hunt with dogs and that is the way I like it.There is nothing like the rush of the dogs barking and a deer busting out of the thick stuff.Sure makes the heart go thump.
I have been raised hunting deer with dogs.I have also hunted out of a tree stand.I like both but enjoy dog drives a whole lot more. Also see more deer with dogs.
#####ing about the way others hunt does nothing for our sport.Atleast nothing good.I expect this from the ANTI,s but not other hunters.COME ON NOW USE YOUR HEAD A LITTLE BEFORE YOU SPOUT OFF.

just because someone has an opinion that is different then yours doesnt make them an anti hunter:rolleyes:

people are simply stating that they dont like dogs being used for deer...better label them as liberal anti's and banish them:rolleyes: just because something is legal doesnt mean people have to like it;)

Ive hunted at my uncles camp and they use dogs. The area they hunt you need them or its very unlikely you will even see a deer in a week of hunting. And with the dogs they dont see that many, this past week they had 11 hunters in camp, they came home with 3 deer and every camp member had a smile on theyre face, 3 deer made a productive year for them! Would I chastise them for using dogs,, nope.... if a bunch of 60 and 70+ year olds want too use dogs for theyre drives,, more power too them. Theyre still out there hunting! who am I too tell a priest, a couple deacons, a bailiff, several retired principals, a couple retired army personnel,, there way in unethical!

The group I hunt with stand hunt in southern ontario,, we kill alot more deer than they see every year! Is our way better than theres? no we are all still getting out and hunting legally!

What you are saying is along the same lines as all the uther people who are caught up in the "political correctness" craze.

Face it, j just because someone else is doing it doesnn't mean it is morally wrong or unethical just because you don't hunt like that ot approve of it.

This goes right along with the " hunting at long range is wrong" statements.

If it is done illegaly , yes it is wrong.
If done legally, fill yer boots.

I have been told that coyotes and dawgs is okay, but deer and dawgs is a no-no!
What the H^$# is the difference!!:runaway:
It's all hunting.......
