Who’s excited for sept!

I can't wait till October 16th so I can get my migratory and upland licences. Didn't think moving would deprive me of an archery season.

Like I say to a lot of people, spending a day in the mountains in the late summer/early autumn is maybe half of the experience for me. The free range meat, upon a successful hunt, is a bonus.

Agreed, it was beautiful up there as always. Sun came out and layers came off, watched weather roll in and out. Lightning strikes out to the north, happy to be sitting up there taking it all in.

Nice view BB.

Should get even better once it’s any buck for mulies in oct, I have some mule bucks on the trail cam already. Should be interesting once the rutt hits if the snow holds off up there. :)

Here’s another spot we’re spent awhile in the day before, a bit lower in elevation. Lots of tracks and droppings, deer and bear and some other poops that might have been big cat or wolf or coyote. Have the camera set up and will be back in there soon. Saw a couple nice sized whitetail does as we were walking in early in the am.

well..... I've just about had the worst fuggen day in a while LOL
I got an acre of land and 1/2 is bush. We get lots of deer, moose, bears, cougars who use the back corridor and we're perfectly fine with that. Fenced the yard so the animals could come and go and the dogs have thier space too. I set up a nice treestand spot and will often sit up there and watch the deer and stuff. I planned to arrow a buck this season as it is a perfectly acceptable and legal thing to do around here.

Today I came home to find an excavator in my back bush and the fugger had cleared all the bush in a swath 1/2 acre long by a good 60 feet. My property back there is 117 feet wide.... so 1/2 of my back bush is gone!!!
The old guy on the machine said he was hired by the neighbor and she told him it was nobodies land..... she's lived there over 20 years.....
to make matters worse, now there is a gargantuan pile of what was the trees and bush on 1/4 acre of my property ...... on my fuggen property and the guy says he has a permit to burn it!!!
I'm like what the hell buddy ! you just destroyed my property and now you wanna burn that pile and kill all the trees surrounding it?

so ..... no elk hunting for me... was supposed to leave tomorrow. Cops are here, bylaw officer is on the way and I'm off to the lawyer's office in the morning.

just when i thought i had my own little piece of paradise...... and a gravy little backyard deer hunting set up...... some ###### neighbor has to go fugger it all up.

it's going to cost them "deerly" believe me... (haha)

That sucks hard man. Worst part is there's no undoing it... that is truly harsh. I wish you luck in your litigation...

yup..... cops and the bylaw guy just left after being here over 3 hours photographing. Seems my neighbor and the guy she hired are in some serious trouble beyond what they did to my property. There is a ditch between our properties that is part of the drainage here and buddy completely filled it in. Someone from the ministry of environment will be here in the morning apparently. No permit was applied for so some major #### is about to hit the fan.
I'm gonna make them replant all those sakatoon bushes and pine trees... every last one of em LOL

anyhow..... missing my elk trip is a pisser but I've still got my favorite hunt of the season coming in a couple weeks and nothing will stand in my way when it comes to hunting high country steep terrain mature Black Tails :)

Just a thought - and I'm sifting for a silver lining in a channel full of chit - but perhaps all that forage suddenly available will bring more beasties in for a chew....

man... that's like a Seinfeld episode gone really bad.

Hope it all works out for you in the end (i.e. you incur no costs, maybe even recoup something)

Well, I had a couple of close encounters in the past couple of days where I live in Northern BC.

We called a 5x6 bull elk in really close early in the morning one day, but at that point I had not counted his spikes. He retreated to a clearing 200 yards away and I did not have a shot at anything but his head through the trees. He came in again but the wind swirled and he was out of there. This encounter really got me going.

Later we spotted a monster bull about 5k away across a valley sunning himself in an older cut. We park around 1.5k away and walked through the bush and on an old haul road in an attempt to approach him from above as he was bedded down. The wind was swirling, the cut was much thicker than anticipated and he was nowhere to be found. As we walked through the bush we saw some bear tracks that looked like they belonged to a real monster.

The next day we called elk early in the morning but got no responses. Drove around and followed a few game trails and looked at licks while grunting for moose. Nothing. Went up a mountain to the area where the guy I was hunting with had spotted a legal bullmoose a few months ago.

Stood on the edge of a cut grunting after following some tracks in the fresh snow. Not exactly on high alert at this moment until the guy I was hunting with yelled "he's right behind us!".

Moose was 40 yards away in some trees quartering towards us! We were glassing the cut down slope and he was right by us in the bush the whole time. I put the binos on him as the guy I'm with whispered "you don't need those he's right there!". He was not legal, but the guy I was with was sure he was. As we argued in whispers he busted us and ran off.

I've never hunted moose before, I couldn't believe how quietly he came in, if only it was still any bull season! Might go for a cruise and look for a big bear someone I know spotted tomorrow

Probably too tired to do any more hunting on these days off. Hopefully I will get out again this year but this a busy time at work and I am very burnt out from the summer.

I love September. Berries are ripe, way less tourists, colours are starting and my birthday is on opening day here. It is bigger than Christmas for me!

September is going well. It was a busy morning...

For an Island deer, this character is big bodied and had a decent rack.

This one I'm going to do as a European mount. Felt good to cut a tag!

Was a beautiful day today, headed out late afternoon for a bit of grouse hunting. Managed to get my bag limit for the day, I’m doing alright with the grouse. I just need to connect with a buck, just have to keep at it!

Such nice looking birds, I love the variation in color patterns from one ruffed grouse to the next.

punched my region 5 tag this morning after getting up late.
Took a short drive out past needa lake and up as high as i could get in the ol dodge. Was a 4x4 morning all the way from my driveway with 6" inches of heavy snow and more falling.
I wasn't really into it when i got there, it was low cloud ceiling and snowing like a bastard but I left the truck and headed up the treeline nonetheless. My spot was 500 yards up the slope , a mix of new and not so new clear cut, south facing. Fresh bear tracks in the snow near the start of my hike..... got a tag for those too and I trudge on.
I didn't make it to my destination and about 150 yards from the truck feeding a few yards out from the treeline to my left I saw the first doe. I didn't see the deer in the trees to my right but know the sound of an alarmed deer snort and as I turned I was looking at one of the bucks I'm sure I've been scouting for a while now. Too many points to count but as I raised the rifle it was turning and no shot through the trees. There were 7 deer that i counted as they all exploded into high gear. I saw bone on the head of a good sized deer coming across from the cut to the safety of the trees and the ruger 77 barked once.
was an easy-ish slide down to the truck and 1/4'd so I could lift him in, but a nice 3x3 mulie on opening day of any buck.
I'm off to butcher bobs to drop him off and get ready for my annual trip for high country black tails..... my favorite hunt of the year :)
I'll see if I can manage to get imgur working again when i get back .
