5 shoot group at 100 yards. 223 using Federal 55 gr JHP bulk pack ammo.

Winchester 45 gr JHP weren't too bad.

Took 2 shots to get it on paper.

I bought my .223 Axis on boxing day and finally got a chance to test it out a couple days ago. I thoroughly enjoyed shooting it! I was running cheap bulk ammo and still managed to get 1" - 1.25" groups at 100m. A great little rifle for $250. Definitely puts my 700BDL to shame.
As soon as I got home I filled the buttstock with resin to beef up the grip area. As the resin was curing a little bit leaked into the trigger guard area, which is perfect because now the removable guard is glued to the stock. :)
I also polished the sear and cut a coil off the trigger spring. Now it's a tad heavier (but still light) and the trigger feels a bit smoother. Can't wait to try it out with the Hornady Superformance ammo I just picked up.
The scope and rings are junk so I can't wait til my new scope comes in. Anyone know if a one piece rail is available for the Axis?

The axis uses the same bases as the regular savage with accutrigger, so there sure should be rails available.

Totally wrong. There is no rail produced for the axis. There is one rail that members of the savage shooters forum are drilling holds in to make it work.

Although weaver bases may be compatible, they are spaced differently so rails are not comPatible.

Thanks for the reply. I joined savage shooters forum and did some reading. Just ordered an EGW 1pc scope mount from Brownells for the axis. The part number is 41800 for anyone else who's interested in buying one. :)

I plan to put on a Bushnell D &D 4 -16x50 tonight on my Axis. I figure the red/green crosshairs may come in handy when its getting dark.

I tempted to cut the spring aswell.. Just a little iffy on doing it myself without knowing alot haha

Axis for $249.99

Sorry i didn't reply sooner. Been away for a bit. Got mine at WSS. They didn't have the youth model on sale and were out of 7mm08 in standard model. I asked if they could do a price match and after a chat with a supervisor, they agreed. Came with the scope mounted but it sure was NOT boresighted. Got everything together for reloading, now just gotta test drive the new loads

I stand corrected. Forgot about the spacing.

I shot my .223 the other day and loved it. Hit 100 yards is the bullseye right away! Then before I could get my target I noticed another dummy shooting at my target.. He didn't want to wait for target change he said. So I left without it!

I found the trigger to be alright for my liking. Maybe in the summer I will play with it.

Howdy, the wife bought one last week in the 7mm-08 - I liked it so much I ordered one for myself - should get it tommorow. Both youth models-phoned about 10 places before I found one.
Caliber should be good for any game we encounter in the Cariboo. later
