Who bought from Wholesale sports??

I did one purchase from them for a Lee bullet mold and the Lee shooters program CD. I did this online and I had my total order amount and a confirmation e-mail with the amount which was fine, then when they sent the order to me and I get it and the shipping is a lot more on the bill, so I contact them to ask why and they could not tell me why just a lot of well it could be because of and listed a number of excuses none of which applied to my order and I told them that at the time and they didn't do anything about it. So I have not ordered anything from them since. I have had good luck with SIR/Cabela's, even with special orders and Russell Sporting Goods hasn't been too bad either.

I only go into the store in Calgary, I never phone. I was there yesterday to buy some 35g V-Max bullets for my Hornet, but I left because I got tired of waiting to be served. The management decided to no longer use the ticket method of next person to serve, and people who came to the counter after me were getting served first. I hate that. I went on my lunch break, which is likely the worst time of day. I'm looking forward to Bass Pro opening, I hope they are better.

The only WSS outlet I've been at is the one in Edmonton and their customer service could be classified as lack luster at best. On my most recent 'visit' and at the new location, I would say there has been a noticeable improvement, at the firearms and component counter anyway. I had stopped in at P&d, picked up some components for my 348WCF but they didn't have RCBS dies of shell holder so I stopped in at WSS. Found the dies but I searched their rack and couldn't find a #5 shell holder. The lady at the counter said she was sure there was one there somewhere, virtually tore the rack apart and found it. Perviously I'd never seen any of their people go the extra yard effort wise.

I've ordered lots of stuff from WSS in the past without a hitch. Last time was a Ruger MkIII 22/45 with the slabside 4.5" barrel. Got it in less than a week, including order, processing, transfer, shipping & receipt.

That said, I prefer to support CGN supporting dealers where/when I can, too.

I ordered a .22LR pistol from Wholesale Sports through their website. My order was processed, my credit card charged, and I thought everything was going well. Almost two weeks after I placed my order I received a message on my answering machine telling me that the item I had ordered was out of stock. I called back to change my order to another similar item, and verify before placing my order that the item was in stock and I wouldn't be waiting another two weeks thinking everything was OK. The person I spoke with on the phone was not exceptionally helpful and didn't seem to have a very good idea how to use their inventory control software and by her own admission had no knowledge of firearms. Overall, not a great experience. If I was to order anything through their website again I would call to make sure the item was in stock, but I would only do business with them again if their price was considerably better than anywhere else.
On a side note, it took almost 2 months to process the transfer. Not Wholesale Sports fault, but it doesn't make my memory of the experience any better.

I'm lucky I live where there is a store. I've never tried mail order from them. When I have asked the store to get stuff in that is listed in the catalogue, sometimes I'm told I'll have to pay shipping - they are treating it like mail order. I decline, because they are getting other stock brought in all the time so I won't accept that there is any real differential cost for them. Then I either ask another member or staff or wait 'til they bring some in on their own initiative or I mail order it from someone else.

I like Wholesale Sports, but they aren't perfect, and they have failings that are typical of a big organisation.

I find their service sucks and the guys behind the gun counter have about as much gun know how as a Walmart greeter. Don't waste your time, there are better site sponsors here to order from.

what he said^. A bunch of old burned out sales people who nobody else would hire.

I have ordered from WSS a few times and the first few were great, although this was a number of years ago. The last time I tried to buy a reloading scale, that was in stock and after two weeks of waiting I phoned and the lady told me that they were behind in their orders and it just hasn't been shipped yet. She then went on to tell me they should get to it within the next week. I cancelled the order and ordered the same scale from Cabellas. It arrived in 4 days, however...

If you order from .ca -Canada- there are no extra fees
.

This is not exactly true and the "handling fees" are a little high, but the service is worth it.

Furthermore, if they don't have it they will tell you immediately and give you options.

Wholesale Sports is ok, but you have to know what you want. They have a huge selection with reasonable prices. The guy behind the gun counter is no more a gun expert than the stereo guy at Walmart being an electronics expert. You have to know more than they do.

Some of the smaller stores have better expertise, but you pay a harsh premium for it and they have less selection. The bottom line is to know what you need and shop around. Not knowing what you need is just silly, we have the largest information base and consumer reports online, just like this site.

I tried them a couple of years ago and got a run-around about "it's at the other warehouse" etc. Cancelled and ordered from P & D in Edmonton..

Having said that, earlier this year, ordered a Browning Buckmark online, was here in 5 days and $80.00 cheaper than anywhere else.

Which is the real company I don't know.

Wholesale was bought out a year or two back, I think by UFA. Many things have improved, much of the staff is new ( improvement??), the inventory is better, new stores, open on Sundays now. ect. Worth noting; Who came up with the name "wholesale"? cause there is nothing in their pricing that reflects "wholesale".

The firearms retail industry is funny. I spend an equal amount of time and money in the music industry as a musician. I get treated very very well in many music stores and I have a tremendous amount of loyalty to them, and always shop there first. The firearms business, not the same. Its often less effort and more satisfying to make purchases from across the country than in my own back yard. How much do you have to spend to get a little respect? Is it just me? or are people employed in the gun industry the type of people you would never have in your home? Which I also find really strange, because gun owners in general are really decent people.

I would rather floss with barbed wire than deal with WSS staff.

(In Calgary, at least.)

I've never met a group of people that knew so much about pistols that was patently wrong. Couple that with a holier than thou attitude, and conveying the impression that you're a criminal for looking at handguns rather than rifles, and they've really got a winning formula!

Of course, if they hadn't been such jackasses, I might never have gone to Pro-Line & found the one shop that I always drop by every time I'm in Calgary. Can't say enough good about them.

One word: stock. Or lack of it.

Wholesale is okay if you treat it like Walmart: low prices but don't expect a lot of help, so know what you want.

Trouble is you can know what you want but it never is in.

It was interesting when the new south store opened in Edmonton. The first two weeks you could go in and actually find nearly their full product line.

A couple months later and its like picking through the bargain basement for a pair of size 10 shoes and all they have are 7, 8 and 13 left.

I went in specifically to burn through a gift card and spend a bit more to pick up a Wetterling axe, 12 gauge slugs, a specific sling and hiking staff, some brass and bullets, and a set of dies, but walked out empty handed.

I will give them the fact the new staff is fairly attentive and the decent hours they are open. How long will that last though before being jaded sets in, and the hours are pulled back?

Any of the CGN sponsors give better service, especially P&D has been getting my business in Edmonton for quite a few years.
