Actually, it's not the shorter length that I'm interested in.

The short cylinder model has a cool looking unfluted cylinder......nice!!!!

But the reason for shorter cylinder is here.

"It sports a legal 4.5" barrel ( measure from crown to face of cylinder ) but because of the design has an overall length of a standard 4" version."

Why short cylinder vs regular length?

I realize you don't need the full length for the 9mm, but is there an advantage or trade off to go short vs regular?

I would think that the less distance the bullet has to travel before it reaches the barrel the better it would work. This is just a guess on my part.

I also like the look of the unfluted cylinder but I have to agree the short cylinder looks a bit odd. I would be interested in one with a full size unfluted cyclinder (even though I think Greydog is on to something) and the OAL increases .5"

Picked up my .357 5" today!!!!! Initial impression is good I agree with what VanMan said about his 9mm. Fit n finish may not be s&w grade but it feels good in the hand as far as weight and balance go. Haven't shot it yet maybe Wed. Only thing I'm not keen on is the grips. Feels more like plastic than rubber. Shoulda bought wood ones when i placed the order and saved the shipping. Oh well.
