Who has a Steyr HS50?

What rifle did you get....Barrett?
What made you choose the .416? Slight derail of this thread, but any pics, more details of your rig?

I had the new .416 out yesterday. That thing is a cannon. I can't wait to do some reloading for it. I have the cutting edge 472gr projectiles on route.

It's my first time shooting a cartridge of that size. The concussion off of the muzzle brake is unreal. Lots of fun.

Barrett.

My range is not rated for 50, and components are readily available for the 416 from Wolverine. I also like the velocities it can achieve. I've been thinking about it like going to a 6.5mm or 7mm from a 30-06 - higher velocity with lighter projectiles. And I wasn't willing to go for a cheytac yet.

It's a nice next step from a 338. It's a nice little project.

What are the distances at your range?

1500m but not rated for .50?? Can't you bring your own AR550 steel?

It's primarily a competition range for paper targets. Do you like that bushnell ERS? I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on quality of glass, feel/ quality of turrets and adjustments, features, etc. I picked up a leupold mk6 3-18 off of the EE earlier this year and it has been serving me well. It's no S&B or premier reticles, but I find it superior to the sightrons and such.

I have the XRS. It's very good optic for its price at $2k since it's made in Japan at the old Bosch & Lomb factory until Bushnell bought them out and rebrand them. I would rate it very good up until about 25x, from 25x onwards the image quality does degrade noticeably. Anything else that's better (S&B, NF (FFP), Hensoldt, Kahles) are at least 2x the price.

Cool. I'll keep it in mind when I go to buy another scope.

I just received my new (to me) press, dies and brass. Just waiting on the powder and projectiles. I can't wait to do some loading for this thing.

Going to load the cutting edge 472gr mtac.

It's a .50, so everything is expensive, and given the low potential sales volume, I don't begrudge ATRS from making a profit margin on these.

That said, I don't have an HS 50 yet (I do have a Gen 2 DA 50 AR-15 Upper in .50 BMG and it's simply awesome), but I really, really, really want an HS 50. Please Santa.

I just bought an HS50 M1 - looking forward to receiving it soon! Will be able to do some side by side comparisons with my DA50 in the spring - I have been pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of the DA50, but of course expect more performance from the Steyr...

Steyr hs 50 is the one of the best bmg in Canada, DA50 is just a plinker.

Congrats! As mention above the DA50 is more like a plinker. The 36" CHF barrel on the HS50 is no joke.

Thanks. One issue that I am concerned about is that the HS 50 M1 I purchased won't come with the takedown tool or the travel case. I can figure out the case, but am worried a bit about the takedown tool. Is it a standard tool size? Can a hex key be substituted? If so, which one? If anyone can check their takedown tool and let me know, I would appreciate it!

Ranges have templates according to calibre and 338LM and 50 BMG have huge "safety" areas which often do not fit within range-controlled land. This should always be considered when buying.
