Are they mounted on the Gas Cylinder Lock? - if so, what is the advantage?
I love M14 talk.

The part that sticks up above the barrel has a hole through it, and a pin that sticks up from the bottom that acts as the front sight post.

There is something wrong with your set up. The gas lock should be tight against the gas cylinder on the bottom. There should be no gap when you screw in the plug. If that was to shim up the gas system as I can see a washer or something there....it is to be done on other end where the shoulder of the barrel meets the end of the gas system and the piece of metal that holds the handguard and stock (front band) rests against. You place very thin shims there to get the gas lock to be tight at the 3-4 oclock position and you hand tighten the rest with a proper gas lock wrench.
You can experience some serious problems the way you have it......PM me if you have some questions....
Cheers

Splatter said:Ja, I know the picture shows a "problem". It's sort of the Mk1 version of my adjustable gas system. When I'm done it'll have an adjustable internal volume.
Don't worry, when it's done I'll have a full write-up and pix.
I posted the picture because no one else was posting a shot of a navy sight, and this one was sitting in my Photobucket album
