What do the Navy sights look like? Are they mounted on the Just curious.

Are they mounted on the Gas Cylinder Lock? - if so, what is the advantage?

I love M14 talk.

As Craftman say...it is part of the lock.

The part that sticks up above the barrel has a hole through it, and a pin that sticks up from the bottom that acts as the front sight post.

Slavex had mine made-up. I think mine was out of the first batch, if there were later batches, I'm unsure.
I read a rumour that Rooster33 was going to make some; but even if he is, I wouldn't be holding my breath awaiting delivery.
Perhaps Slavex could be persuaded to have another batch done, or at least pass-on who he used.

Splatter,

There is something wrong with your set up. The gas lock should be tight against the gas cylinder on the bottom. There should be no gap when you screw in the plug. If that was to shim up the gas system as I can see a washer or something there....it is to be done on other end where the shoulder of the barrel meets the end of the gas system and the piece of metal that holds the handguard and stock (front band) rests against. You place very thin shims there to get the gas lock to be tight at the 3-4 oclock position and you hand tighten the rest with a proper gas lock wrench.

You can experience some serious problems the way you have it......PM me if you have some questions....

Cheers

I was going to say the same. Thin shims should be used on the other end. Have you used your M14 set up this way??

Ja, I know the picture shows a "problem". It's sort of the Mk1 version of my adjustable gas system. When I'm done it'll have an adjustable internal volume.
Don't worry, when it's done I'll have a full write-up and pix.
I posted the picture because no one else was posting a shot of a navy sight, and this one was sitting in my Photobucket album

I would be very curious on your efforts. I have always believed the M14 as having a self adjusting gas system based on the piston. You can get a gas piston modified for shooting the 175 gr bullets and loads as demonstrated in NM versions. Just curious as to why you would want it.....

Cheers

What I wanted was a gas system that would allow the shooting of 7.62x39 equivilent loads, and 190 grain @ 2600 without pounding the rifle to peices.

I agree that the M14 gas system is sort-of self adjusting, and I know that Laz2000 says his M14s would cycle M43 equivelent rounds; but mine sure wouldn't.
With the gas system volume expanded, like you see in the pic, Hirtenberger surplus would reliably eject; but never pick-up a fresh round, Federal commercial 150's would, but wouldn't lock back most times. And my old Metallic silhouette ammo (190 Hornady BTSPs @2550) would; but still seemed a bit harsh.

Kinda what I'm doing, except the internal volume will be adjustable. Hey, it might not work, or it might work like crap; but, what-the-hell.
