Who has the worst customer service?

I'll give a plug for WSS in Saskatoon. Every time I am there I walk up to the counter with a list in my hand. ( usually buying reloading stuff ). The fellow behind the counter is usually dealing with some blow hard blah blah blah old fart that knows everything but never spends a penny. Every time the salesman excuses himself from Mr. Knowitall and comes over. I hand him the list and he gets my stuff. In and out in less than ten minutes.

I've learned if you look like and are actually there to spend money ( ie: holding a list) you get great service.

Having worked retail in my younger days you get sick of tire kickers and learn to recognize serious customers. In some ways I can't blame some of these retailers for being a little sour.

Advice to Mr. Knowitall
1) Window shopping is done from the street
2) If you want a gun do a little research ahead of time and bring your wallet to the store
3) The salesman does not give a flying f**k about your stories and know it all BS and neither does anyone else.
4) If you cannot abide by these simple yet effective rules stay the hell at home and stop
wasting everyones time

One time I actually took over explaining the legal procedures to one of these knobs just so the salesman could help another fellow who was waiting.

Well, I do have to admit that I have been guilty of taking a bit of the salesman's time. I DID do my research beforehand and went with the knowledge of what calibre I wanted but where make/model was concerned I found so many conflicting opinions, it was useless. I ended up looking at 3 or 4 different models before I made up my mind. But in my defence, I DID buy it.

When all is said and done, isn't that what a salesman is there for - to answer questions and help the customer make the correct choice for them? If everyone knew what they wanted beforehand you could set up the store like the old Consumer's Distributing used to be: fill out a form with the model you want, hand it in and the box will come out on a conveyor belt. I don't think ANYONE (even the most experienced of us) wants to shop for guns like that! (I do agree that customers shouldn't stand there bulls**tting with them when there are a tonne of people waiting.)

In my experience it's the counter staff doing the BS to the customer.

Also, when I walk in and give the counter guy at WSS Calgary the make, model, and caliber of the rifle I want, and he is to ####ing lazy to do his job, it really pisses me off. Especially after standing there for 20 minutes waiting to be served. The prick probably did'nt want to walk out in back, find the gun, start a transfer. So he says "I need the gun manufacturer's stock number". No stock number, no sale. What a piece of BS. This guy was just to freak'n lazy to do his job. Instead he just stood there playing with a set of used $2 lens covers for a scope. Something was also a bit off about the guy, so I did'nt push it.

No more of my cash will ever go to WSS Calgary, and when folk ask me where is the best place to shop I'll tell them anywhere but WSS Calgary!

Not meaning to offend but I think we have all seen Mr Knowitall once or twice. I guess my experiences have been positive but I know what you mean about lazy people in the work place. If the owner/store managers spent most of the time in the store keeping a direct eye on things and not wasting time doing "executive" stuff these morons would work as they are supposed to.

I've seen more than one person go belly up starting a store and thinking after things were set up all they had to do was let the hired help run things while they went golfing.

Gone fishin' in Nanaimo gets the worst CS.

Island Outfitters has gotten beter since they redid the building.

We never have had a problem with WSS ordering mailorder.

The worst for me, is the attitude at Milarm. You dont have to tell me that "you'll charge as much as you can cause its hard to get ammo". Goin in there is like goin back to an ex girlfriend that you hate, but your desperate for a one nighter.

MilArm in Edmonton is horrible. If your a real sicko and like being talked down to, make sure you ask for Gord.....he will make you want to slit your wrists, just to end the suffering.

ROTFL!!!

Hahahah! I knew I couldn't be the only one.

Funny how being a customer for a good 5 years, spending about $10,000 over that time, and knowing that you can still be treated like a lowly piece of s**t, sure makes a guy feel special! :)

I guess the feeling that always comes through is that Milarm in itself is a sweet store, some of the staff are OK, (and I had one guy who I dealt with exclusively who was GREAT), its Gord that we all can't stand.

Ahhhh..... that felt good to get out in the open. ;)

All I can say about the matter is thank goodness for the EE! Its like shopping at every gun store in Canada without the attitude! :D

Cabelas.ca

Look on the bright side people! No matter how bad the service you got at the gun store was, it can't possibly be worse than Lordco!:D:D:bangHead::bangHead:

I had an online order at SIR get messed up pretty bad last fall as they were making the transition to Cabela's. The scope I wanted was backordered but they didn't bother to let me know. I found out by calling them and subsequently ordered a different one and upgraded the shipping to make up for the lost time. Instead they charged me for the fast shipping and sent it standard post.

I sent them a 'constructive criticism'-style email with some suggestions followed up with a call to the manager. The manager, a very pleasant gal named Sandra, was very apoligetic, said steps were being taken to improve their order system, and fairly compensated some $$. She told me to call her directly if I have any further problems in the future. The Cabelas.ca order system has been improved as I suggested, and I happily continue do business there!:)

I have emailed 3 sponsors and 1 frequently posting "range" here trying to buy two glock 17's with no response, as well as asking for pricing on a springfield. I can;'t believe people actually make it hard for me to give them my money...

I am buying 2 more g17's and a couple cases of 9mm for an event at the end of the month and I think Reliable is going to get the money as everyone else treats me like they have people spending more cash in hand or better things to do it seems.

PS- I went past Reliable a couple weeks back, well after closing to check hours. The owner let me in to pick up some essential stuff. A+++ for customer service.

Now if any of you sponsors want my money for 2 handguns and some ammo, 6 or so spare mags, and maybe another AA .22 kit... You should email me before I get up to Reliable.

;)

Whiners. What a bunch of sad sallys. You guys are so bitter you could poison a candy store just by standing in it.

I don't even want to know what you dingbats would have to say about Wal-Mart.

The guy that sold me my Sears Central Airconditioner last year, now works behind the gun counter at Wholesale in Edmonton. I wander if he knows as much about guns as he did with airconditioners? (I doubt it).

:yingyang:

Oh the shooting edge, what a place. Between the mall ninjas that showed up wanting to "touch a glock", and the clowns behind the counter with their empty leg holsters (maybe someone can explain to me why they wear them) cooing over a broad that showed up, all while ignoring me when I was blatantly standing at the front of the counter, prepared to drop a whole pile of money on ammo...

I took my business elsewhere. I thought Wholesale was bad, but after going there, it only affirms my belief that mall ninjas are about as smart as a hoover vacuum cleaner.

It must be at least 6 years since you have been in as we "banned" staff from wearing anyting remotely like that years ago....

I agree, what was with that trend.... Thigh rigs made us all look like goofballs.

There is no excuse for your negative experience though. For that I do apologize.

Only dealt with milarm once, and it was with Gord.
He was excellent, sale was ace.
Just standing up for what I felt was a great transaction...

i think a great deal of it has to do with TIMING- i've dealt with wss since it was BOROTTO/FRENCHY'S ( that's about 1970)and tse since it opened- and NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH EITHER- my tse membership number is somewhere below the 100 mark-
iusually use the CATALOGUE first, and try to pick a time when the rest of the populace is working( that's 8 to 5 monday through friday, typically) even when i was working, i would sked some time at lunch or whatever, and stash the stuff in the delivery van, and put it into my trunk before returning to the warehouse for another run- i also have developed a one on one relationship with at least one member of the staff and they KNOW I AM THERE TO SPEND MONEY and not goof around looking at 40 different guns- and wasting their time and mine- same deal for the firing line when it was in business- so i can't fault either store- now wal-mart and canadian tire are a completely different matter- both wss amd tse are on line and if you tell tell them exactly what you want, when you'll be in and this is a FIRM DEAL , they will accomodate you

Bad: LeBaron's - LeBaron's - LeBaron's, Bass Pro, Guns n' Things, Wholesale Sports

Excellent: Frontier, Wolverine, Arms East, Freedom Ventures, Epps

I know that this thread is about bad service, but I want to put in a plug for the WalMart in Strathmore AB. I wanted Shotgun shells for the ASCA shoot in Mossleigh and I was out of shells at home (probably a jailable offence on this board). I waited at the sporting goods desk for about 10 minutes with no service. I stopped a young looking guy and told him that there were customers wanting ammo (three of us) and there was no staff. He told us that if there was no one availalble when he finished with the customer he was already helping.
In about 3 minutes he was back with the cabinet key, handed us all the ammo we wanted. We paid at the desk and went on our merry way. He didn't have bags so we all just carried our ammo out. I had more shopping to do so I gave the ammo to my daughter to sit on in the cart. No book to sign, no hassle at checkout. Brilliant customer service.

Calgary

Was recently at all in Calgary. At WSS, I very nearly walked out. Went there with a sizeable list, cat. #'s and everything, and no time to browse. First guy didn't seem to be getting anything done, so between the wife combing shelves, and me snagging 4 different guys behind the gun counter all of a sudden things were getting done. (everytime one would dissappear into the back, I'd get someone else looking for the next item)
Think the biggest thing was once they realized I was there to actually Buy the list, the attitude changed.
During the time I was there 5 different guys wasted a counter guy's time when obviously not in the market to buy a gun; sorta like the people that go and test drive new cars because they're bored, even though they know full well they'll never buy one.
Can't say enough good things about the service at Russells, and the Mcld Tr. Cdn tire gun counter.
Bass Pro is as good as a trip to the museum, but watch your prices!
