Who here hunts with 308?

Hunted LOTS with 308 in various rifles...just works.

The first one I handled was an FN in Army Cadets, a few years back. The first and only one I've had in a hunting rifle, for a very short period of time, was an 88 Winchester. But, never did 'like' the look of a lever gun without an external hammer so I put it up for adoption.

Several Decades hunting with 308, go with what I know

I spend a lot of my time hunting with a Ruger m77 mkII ultralight with a vx3 2.5-8x36, it’s almost perfect for the thicker bush I hunt for deer and bear.

I always deer hunt some with my Blr model 81 .308.

Funny ye mentioned that. I put many 7.62 Nato rounds through the C1A1 FN rifles back in me Militia days. Love the FN's and would've hunted with one but the
laws on military autos put the brakes on that by the time I was able to afford one. I've only used one .308 for hunting which was a Rem 600 Mohawk. Neat
little beasty fer deer dumping & range shooting.

The only hammerless lever rifle I hunted with was a Savage 99 in .375 Win that worked great for me as a deer bonker, but I've always preferred the hammer
levers over the "smoothy" receiver units. Silent cocking & de-cocking of the action being the clincher fer me.

My go to rifle is a 308 Winchester pre-64 Featherweight. I use it not so much for the caliber but because the rifle is a perfect fit for me. More than enough gun for what I hunt.

Before the oic ban, rifles like the stag 10 and m14 chambered in 308 was an all purpose rifle filling a hunting rifle with sport shooting .
Myself I have hunted with 308 and satisfied with the calibre

I have hunted with a .308 and may once again, but I much prefer it either necked down to 7mm.

My favorite on the range was/is something I found to be a little more cumbersome and awkward to handle but still, a blast to fire. The Bren. And, my favorite lever gun/calibre combo, the model 71 Winchester and presently, I have a deluxe model.

In our Moose camp, until recently 6 of the eight of us used the 308. I still use it at times for moose, as well as a deer hunting rifle. Gotta have options!

Only reason to use a 308 is if you want a Savage 99.

They aren't for sale for a reason, and the reason isn't that they aren't popular.

I knew all along you had class bud! Mohawks ROCK and the 308 is all you need. I rebarreled one of my 308s to 6.5CR heavy barrel to replace a Ruger 77 220SW which was getting too heavy for me. Also a pleasure to shoot!

I have shot 3 moose with a 308 Winchester using 180 gr bullets. I sold that rifle and now use a 308 Remington 3 screw model 7 for deer. I also have an early Remington model 760 carbine in 30-06 that I carry when moose hunting just for a change. Don't really need anything but the 308 though.

308 is my favorite.
It's like vanilla ice cream. It's nothing fancy but it's great.

My first hunting rifle was a Rem 700 BDL in .308 bought in the late 70's. Still have it. Wore out the barrel from bad cleaning technique mostly and put on a new takeoff barrel I bought on the EE.
Shoots as good as new. Still the first rifle I take deer hunting.

Have shot moose with .308, 30.06 and 300 H&H. They all dropped. Nuff said.
