Who hunts with a 10 Gauge?

There is a guy on Yoo Toob using a Spanish double 10 loaded with heavy charges of Blue Dot and 18 00 buck pellets. He shoots car doors ( in a wrecking yard) at 75 yards and man does it plaster the target. Fun to watch. Very distinct sound when it goes off.

I picked up a 10 Ga BPS pump last year and haven't swung back, just found a flat of 10Ga BB black cloud for $250, You can never have enough ammo for it. Made all the difference when shooting distance over decoys, buddys have shot within 30 yards and as they fly off, its one shot, one kill. I have hit ducks in the river less then 30 yards with a pattern all around in a 12 ga and they still got up and flew away!

10 ga, no-sir-e, not for me!!!! I even wonder hard about the 8 ga that was on a western movie on TV a while back. They said it could a man in half with one shot! What would it do to the shooter? Prolly send him into yesterday!

I have a Marlin super goose 10 gauge bolt action. For those birds way up there (LOL). Also have an Ithaca Roadblocker for slugs and just plain fun.

My SP-10 is a great waterfowl gun. My favorite duck load of late is the Remington 1500 fps load of #2s. When I hunt cranes and geese, I like it stuffed full of BBs.

I suspect the black powder version of this would probably have less of an abrupt recoil force then a 10 gauge pump action, with the 3 1/2 inch Magnum chambering.

Also many waterfowling pieces of bigger than 12 bore from 'back in the day' were purposely plus ten pounds in weight for this very reason.

I thought all Cape Bretoners still use their old 16 ga bolt action goose guns to kill geese????? LOL

Not hard to tell you have never goose hunted with one of us capers ;)
Did have one bolt action goose gun a 36" 10ga" marlin and probally moved from that to the 1st 10ga semi around here in the mid 70's when the ithaca mag 10 came out and the rest is history
Don't need a 10ga for sure in Ontario to hunt geese a golf club works just fine ;)
But then again pop up with a 10ga in a blind up there and the geese drop dead just from fear ;)
Especially with bubba682 reloads in the gun
Cheers

Oh relax now, use a 10 if you want but you're kinda GEHY if you need to. Just sayin

You have good day too!
I use a ten gauge because i like to.
The guns are over 100 years old and black powder hammer doubles.
Classy? Yup.
Ghey?? Hardly.
Unless of course, you cannot connect with anything but modern fire arms and think there is no use for the Mighty Ten.
I can load mine down to one once loads and shoot partridge if I want to.
it's not the gauge for me but the guns themselves......

Hi Cat glad you enjoy using your 10ga guns, just making the point that with the advent of modern guns and loads the 10ga is a bit of a dinosaur and I feel obsolete.

Why pound the crap out of yourself not to mention the added expense of the platform and ammo. I'm all for using enough gun when you hunt but why use too much gun???

Lots would argue not such thing, I bet thousands of hunters shoulders might argue that. If you choose to use one, "too each their own" but JMO I still say the 10ga has a big Gehyness factor attached to it.

I stand by my first post 10ga guys THINK they need a 10ga, ........Everyone else KNOWS they don't !

Dinosaur??? Obsolete?? Maybe prior to the introduction of steel shot but not today
Man from your posts you have a lot to learn about the 10ga and this is from someone that probally has most modern versions of 12ga in his safe to do side by side comparisons
You have never owned one or have you shared a blind with someone that did and could shoot. Or are your comments based on internet BS

One morning watching a guide pass shooting sold me over 30 years ago and made my 12ga look like a 410 in a goose blind
I reload everything so it doesn't matter if 410 or 10ga as many owners do
My 10ga golds are way more pleasant to shoot in the recoil department than my 3 1/2 12ga golds, superx's, etc etc and no 12ga will pattern like them
My last gold 10ga I sold on the EE took 45 minutes to sell and could have sold it 6 times in the short listing time. Must be the obsolete dinasaur doing that :)

So who is getting beat up. Don't worry there is still time for you to see the light like my old friend bubba662 did a few years ago :)
This one is still my favorite of the four I still own

Cheers

No worries about beating me up, it's happened before.LOL
Just not gonna get beat up by a 10 ga and I certainly don't want to pay more money for it!

3macs, only shared the blind with guys that have had the big 10. 2 things I noticed, they whined about how heavy they were to carry and bragged how great the killed. They killed less than I did!.... I found they opted to take long range shots that I would pass on, more cripples. Oh and their macho attitude matched the gauge of their gun. Not saying all 10ga shooters are the same, that has just been my experience.

Not saying nobody should shoot a 10, do so if you choose. I just kinda ask why?

The older I get the more inclined I am to use a lighter gun, for any hunting. Not saying I'd carry a 223 to hunt elk, just why lug around a 50cal to kill something a 30 cal kills just as dead.
